They tell them that a boy was driving the bus (not called Peter) and had said that the rest of the boys had 'gone to the angels'. He'd left and not returned. The kids think that the 'angels' were up a mountain in Derbyshire. They all go on to the school, which Abby has found is deserted. Lizzie has the minibus key, so they go back to
check its contents. Inside are a map, with a place in Derbyshire marked, and some old newspapers containing articles about a religious group who had retreated into the Derbyshire hills preaching impending doom just before the sickness had started. They take the minibus and set off for Derbyshire. Once they reach the area, they find a house to use as a base. There is already a man staying there - he is very nervous, and shoots Greg in the shoulder. He
has just escaped from a small settlement which was raided by a group of thugs calling themselves the 'British Government', acting on behalf of the 'Chairman of Britain'. They had taken everything from the settlement, including a young woman, and torched the rest.
Abby sets off on foot to find the 'angels'. She finds them in a remote farmhouse - there are three men in the group. Abby is the first person they have seen since they retreated up
there. Abby asks if she can stay awhile.
Back in the house, Greg's wound is healing. He and Jen are now a couple, and the new man is jealous and starting to behave oddly. He is paranoid about getting a visit from the 'British Government'. Greg and Jen decide to leave him to it, and take the children to join Abby at the 'angels' farmhouse.
Very soon after they arrive, the 'angels' become ill. Abby has carried the plague with her and the three men die.
Abby is now worried that if she finds Peter, and he has not been ill, she may end up killing him too!
