When most of us think of Eastern Europe, Poland is probably the first country that comes into mind, and when you'll go there, it's easy to see why. Ugly Soviet buildings mar the landscape of what would otherwise be a charming city; polluting factories appear just when you're beginning to enjoy the view of the countryside; and you'll be amazed at the pace of change and how quickly the Poles are overcoming the scars of Soviet subjugation. I wish I could have seen more; our trip was limited to Krakow, one of the nicest cities in Europe, and Warsaw, which was obliterated during World War II, yet rebuilt itself in an impressive and moving fashion.
