It's hard to believe this beautiful small nation was once part of Yugoslavia. Independent after a brief ten day war in 1991, the Slovenes have made amazing strides since their nation became a sovereign state for the first time ever. When you see the gorgeous, sloping countryside and its charming, provincial capital, Ljubljana, you'll thank God that Slovenia was spared the trauma and carnage that has stricken Bosnia, Croatia, and Kosovo during the nineties. Spend a couple days in Ljubljana and enjoy the sweet art deco buildings. If you've got time, you must do a farmstay, which will be great for some laughs while you gaze at the many shades of green, meticulously kept farms and villages, and breathtaking mountains, canyons, and waterfalls. Slovenia, I believe, is the best kept secret in Europe.
