I suggest you to use the tube that is very fast and secure also at night in the city, not in peripheral districts.

You can buy single tickets at 1.30 Euro or a cheaper block of 10 tickets (carnet) at 9.60 Euro. If you plan to stay in Paris for a few days you can buy a cumulative pass. There are two kinds of cumulative tube and bus ticket:

Carte Orange is cheaper

Paris Visite is a first class ticket (but there is not a first class in the tube!!) and it's more expensive,  you can buy it for 1, 2, 3 and 5 days at 8.35, 13.70, 18.25, 26.65 Euros. As you can see a 3 days Paris Visit is more expensive that a weekly Carte Orange. For all this tickets you must choose the zone extension, more zones you want more expensive is the ticket. You probably need only a zone 1-2 or 1-3 ticket. Don't buy it at the airport where you should take the more expensive zone 1-5. In alternative you can buy 10 single tickets "a carnet de tickets" with a little discount.

With all these tickets you can take also the bus, you need one ticket for every bus you take. Remember not to obliterate your Carte Orange or Paris Visite in the bus or you'll destroy it, you have only to show it to the driver.

There are a lot of taxis, quite expensive, they usually accept credit cards.

Here you can consult on line the complete Paris map and Paris tube map. If you have Acrobat Reader a very good map is here, and here you can search any information on the Paris tube .
