When he and Holly Goodhead escape by slinging a chain over the main cable, Jaws gets his accomplice to send the cable car after them in the hope of crushing them. However, with the braking system out of action, Jaws's car runs out of control and demolishes the lower station. (MR)

Cafˇ Complait
Part of one of Bond's breakfasts for two, along with fresh orange juice. (OHMSS)

Cagiva

'Call Me Bwana'
A film starring Bob Hope and Anita Ekberg, and produced by Harry Saltzman and Albert R (aka 'Cubby') Broccoli. A poster for this film hid an escape route for the assassin Krilencu from his hideout, but unfortunately for him, not well enough. (FRWL)

Cambridge
British university where Bond obtained a First in Oriental Languages. One of his fellow students was Hosein, later to become a Sheikh. (YOLT, TSWLM)

Candid Camera
Television programme with which Bond is familiar, despite his loathing for the medium. (TSWLM)

One of Max Zorin's affectations, which also conceals a transmitter in the tip. When activated, the transmitter sends a signal to the microchips implanted in his horses, giving them a dose of steroids. (AVTAK)

Cannon
A circus prop used to fire Francisco the Fearless across the big top of Octopussy's circus. General Orlov has a duplicate made, to trick Octopussy into thinking that she was smuggling jewellery into West Germany in the cannon's base, whereas she is actually taking a second cannon containing a nuclear bomb. Bond uses the first cannon to dispose of Mishka, kicking a lever that drops the heavy barrel onto the killer's head, and reaches the second cannon to remove the detonator from the nuke a second before it goes off. (OP)

Canon
Japanese manufacturer of cameras and other equipment. (MR)

Cape Canaveral
Main launch site for the American space programme, in Florida. Launches from here are subject to interference from Dr No's base in Jamaica. (DN)

Car Driver
(Peter Fanene Maivia)
Large but stupid man employed by Osato to act as a getaway driver for Henderson's killer. Although he is formidable in a fight, he doesn't have the brains to tell the difference between the assassin and Bond when the latter puts on a hat and small facemask. (YOLT)

Carina
(Tina Hudson)
Bond's contact in Cuba, who helps him infiltrate a Cuban airbase. Fidel Castro takes quite a fancy to her, or at least her low-cut, high-slit dress. Carina also helps Bond escape his captors by distracting his guards with the same item of clothing.
NB: For some bizarre reason, Carina (whose name is clearly spoken by Bond) is listed in the credits as 'Bianca'! (OP)

Carlos & Wilmsberg
An importer owned by Drax, based in Rio de Janiero with a warehouse on Karaoka Avenue. C&W are being used to bring Drax's nerve gas globes into Brazil. (MR)

Car-plane
A toy of Scaramanga's that put even Q's gadgets to shame. An AMC Matador is modified, presumably by one of Hai Fat's companies, to accept a combined wing, tailplane and jet engine assembly that locks onto the roof. The car-plane has a range of about 200 miles. (TMWTGG)

Carver, Rosie
(Gloria Hendry)
A native of San Monique, Rosie is also a junior CIA agent - and working for Kananga. Bond is only her second mission, the ill-fated Baines having been her first. Bond believes that 'Mrs Bond', as she signs herself in the hotel register, is incompetent but on the level, until he's given a warning by tarot card. She tries to lead Bond into a trap, but 007 has other ideas about how to spend the afternoon. Once she realises that Bond is onto her deception, Rosie tries to flee - but is killed by a gun hidden in one of Kananga's scarecrow sentries. (LALD)

Taking her name from the store where she was born (her mother was shopping for a wedding ring at the time), Tiffany has maintained a connection with diamonds into adulthood, being a major part of an international diamond smuggling ring. Bond, posing as fellow smuggler Peter Franks, meets her in Amsterdam where she hires him to smuggle diamonds into the United States undetected. When she discovers that Bond has in fact smuggled fakes (the real diamonds being sent over by MI6), she attempts to seduce him to find out where they are. (DAF)

Casino de Isthmus
A large casino in Isthmus City, above which Sanchez has his headquarters behind two inches of armoured glass. (LTK)

Casino de Macau
Large hotel and gambling establishment in the Portugese colony off China. It is here where Lazar makes the drop of golden bullets for Scaramanga, without ever seeing who is collecting them. (TMWTGG)

Castro, Fidel
(Brian Coburn)
A long-lived Cuban show-jumping fan, cigar smoker, cleavage-starer, dictator and unreconstructed communist, who has ruled Cuba since 1959 despite the best efforts of the CIA to assassinate him. Maybe they should have asked Bond to do the job.
NB: The actual character is credited as 'South American VIP', though the beard and huge cigars do rather drop a hint as to the man's true identity... (OP)

Catamaran
Twin-hulled cargo ship moored in Nassau harbour near the Disco Volante, and used as a rendezvous (and cover) by Bond. (TB)

Cat, White
Blofeld's constant companion, which he strokes interminably while plotting his evil deeds against the world. Centre International D'Assistance Aux Personnes Displacˇes

This is ostensibly a humanitarian organisation dedicated to helping the dispossessed find new lives in other countries. In fact, it's a cover organisation for SPECTRE's Paris headquarters. (TB)

Centrifuge Trainer
Part of Drax's astronaut training centre, where trainees can experience the g-forces induced by a rocket takeoff. Holly Goodhead encourages Bond to try it, unaware that Chang has sabotaged the machine so that the 'chicken switch' won't work. As the machine's revolutions increase to a lethal level, Bond uses his dart gun to blast the control panel and bring it to a stop. (MR)

Churchill, Della
The maiden name of Della Leiter. (LTK)

CIA
Acronym for the Central Intelligence Agency, the American equivalent of MI6.

Cigar
Bond took to smoking these huge stogies in the 1970s. Although no better for him than cigarettes, one did help him out twice, firstly by igniting an aerosol spray and killing a snake, then by burning the hand of a possible assassin. After that he switched back to cigarettes before giving up entirely, though Xenia Onatopp was partial to them. (LALD, GE)

Cigarette, Rocket
A weapon developed by the Japanese SIS, accurate up to 30 yards, consisting of a tiny rocket concealed inside a cancer stick. Bond uses one when granted a last request in SPECTRE's volcano base to kill the man operating the main shutter controls, allowing Tanaka's ninja force to enter the base. (YOLT)

Domino Derval getting her foot trapped in one of these provided Bond with a convenient excuse to introduce himself to her! (TB)

Claus
(Charles Dance)

Columbo runs a fleet of freighters through the Aegean, which he uses to smuggle gold, diamonds and cigarettes - but not, as he is at pains to point out to Bond, drugs. He is a secret partner in a Greek casino, in which his mistress, Contessa Lisl von Schlaff, occasionally encourages gamblers like Bunky to put up more than they can afford. After Lisl is murdered by Locque, Columbo seeks revenge by trying to join forces with Bond; he gains 007's trust by giving him back his gun, and in the process shows that he trusts Bond not to shoot him on the spot.
He takes Bond, along with a group of his men, in his yacht to lead an attack on Kristatos's drugs warehouse in Albania. After the ATAC is stolen by Kristatos, Bond turns to Columbo to help locate him and the device. The genuine egg, made from gold, decorated with sapphires and containing a model of the Imperial Coach, came up for auction at Sotheby's. Its seller, Kamal Khan, desperately tried to buy it back to cover up the theft of the fake. After Bond raised the price enormously (from an estimated £350,000 to half a million), he swapped the real egg with the fake, ensuring that Khan would have to deal with him to get the genuine egg back. Although Khan eventually reclaimed the egg (with a bug planted by Q inside) it was destroyed by General Orlov, who mistakenly thought it was the fake! (OP)
