Radiation Monitor
A small badge worn by employees at Tectronics's desert facility to warn them if radiation levels are potentially hazardous. Klaus Hergesheimer carries spares. (DAF)

Radiation Suit
Conveniently coming in one-size-fits-all, this disguise allowed Bond to penetrate Dr No's control centre. (DN)

Radioactive Tracer
A small pill, which Q assures Bond is harmless. It allows Bond's location to be picked up with a geiger counter, though somehow it doesn't set off Bond's geiger counter watch! (TB)

Rake
A piece of gardening equipment which, at the Blayden safe house, doubles as a weapon detector. (TLD)

Raki (?)
Drink served by the gypsies to Bond and Kerim Bey. Bey describes it as "filthy stuff", but that doesn't stop him from downing it! (FRWL)

Rats
Squeaking vermin infesting the reservoir tunnels beneath the Russian consulate in Istanbul. Bond also encounters a puzzled member of the genus in a pipeline under the Nevada desert, and discovers that the caged lab rats in Drax's Venice laboratory are unharmed by the lethal-to-humans nerve gas accidentally discharged into the room. (FRWL, DAF, MR)

Razor
As well as keeping Bond's chin free of stubble, his razor also contained a small homing device. (GF)

Rebolo
A white wine from Kristatos's home of Capolonia. Bond considers it a little too scented for his liking. (FYEO)

Rebreather
Minature underwater breathing apparatus devised by Q, usable for about four minutes. It is small enough to fit in a pocket. Bond uses it to survive in Largo's swimming pool after the cover is shut - and the connecting tunnel to the shark pool is opened! He also uses it in the fight between US paratroopers and Largo's forces, decoying several of Largo's men into thinking he's gone into a wrecked ship when he's just dumped his thruster tank in the hulk, along with a grenade. (TB)

Red Dragon
A Chinese Tong from Macau, whose members wear a tattoo denoting their membership - a square with a dagger through it. Count Lippe was a member before joining SPECTRE, the tattoo leading Bond to become suspicious of him. (TB)

Red Scrambler
Encrypted phone on M's desk, used to connect him to the Security Council of the United Nations. (OHMSS)

Red Shirt
Item of clothing picked on by the gate guard at Feldstadt to imply that Bond is a bad 'un. (OP)

Red Stripe
Strong Jamaican lager, crates of which also make a handy seat. (DN)

Reid, James
Shipping agent based in the same building as Universal Exports. (DN)

Reed
A plant used by Bond to make impromptu breathing tubes so he, Quarrel and Honey Ryder can escape detection by Dr No's troops and dogs. (DN)

Remote Control Airways
Blofeld's ironic little nickname for the radio-controlled helicopter in which Bond is trapped. (FYEO)

Remote Key
Largo's then-futuristic means of access to SPECTRE's secret base in Paris, concealed inside a cigarette case. (TB)

Reservoir
An underground water storage area built below Instanbul by Emperor Constantine around 400AD. Kerim Bey makes use of its tunnels to travel around the city in secret, and also to spy on the Russian consulate. (FRWL)

RHH-409
The Texas registration of Kananga/Mr Big's limousine. Bond describes the gaudy gold vehicle as a 'jukebox'. (LALD)

Rhoda
(Peter Brayham)
Grant's wheelman in the flower truck, who is quickly subdued and restrained by Bond. He ends up being thrown into a lake, to Bond's quip of "It just isn't your day, is it?" (FRWL)

Richard
(Kim Fortune)
An RAF officer acting as co-pilot on the 747 bringing a Moonraker space shuttle to Britain. He is killed when the shuttle is hijacked, the fire from its engines causing the jumbo to explode. (MR)

Rifle Grenades
Rocket-propelled explosives used by SPECTRE's forces in an attempt to stop Bond's boat escaping from them. (FRWL)

Rifle, Triggerless
A specialised weapon made by Lazar of Macau for a client with only three fingers on his gun hand. Instead of a conventional trigger, there is a pressure-sensitive mechanism housed in the butt. Because of this, the aim is off for people with five fingers - which after the gun's use by Bond, Lazar is probably very thankful for. (TMWTGG)

Ring
Bond wears this at Zorin's chateau - the signet conceals a small camera, which he uses to take mugshots of various guests. (AVTAK)

Ringmaster Club
A members-only bar at Circus Circus in Las Vegas. (DAF)

Roberts
A USS Wayne crewman whose place was at the gyro unit. (TSWLM)

Rock-A-Bye Baby
The codename for the part of Operation Grand Slam carried out by Pussy Galore's Flying Circus, involving the dispersal of Delta 9 nerve gas into the air around Fort Knox. (GF)

Rocket Guns
Weapons developed by the Japanese SIS, using tiny rockets rather than conventional gunpowder for devastating results. (YOLT)

Rock Salt
The load in Stacey Sutton's shotgun, which Bond only learns after blasting a small army of Zorin's goons to no effect. (AVTAK)

Rodney
(Marc Lawrence)
A Chicago hitman hired by Nick Nack to compete against Scaramanga in one of his regular duels to the death. He is no match for the master assassin, and a single shot from Scaramanga's golden gun finishes him off. (TMWTGG)

Rogerson, Deke
A Louisiana landowner who had his boat stolen by Bond, but was compensated by having a second boat left on his lawn and another in his swimming pool. (LALD)

Rolex
Bond's wristwatch, which as well as telling the time also acts as a powerful electromagnet (Bond claims it can deflect a bullet, though lead isn't known for its magnetic qualities) and has a bezel which can be used as a small circular saw. (LALD)

Rolls-Royce Phantom III
British luxury car. Auric Goldfinger drives around in a 1937 model, which has been modified to smuggle gold around Europe by replacing its steel body panels with ones cast from the precious metal. (GF)

Romanova, Tatiana
(Daniela Bianchi)
A junior clerk (her official rank is Corporal of State Security) in the cryptography section of the Russian consulate in Istanbul, Tatiana is an innocent pawn in SPECTRE's plot to steal the Lektor coding machine and set MI6 and the KGB against each other. Believing Rosa Klebb to still be a member of the KGB, she is duped into following SPECTRE's plan.
Before joining the KGB, Tatiana was a ballet dancer, but grew an inch too tall. After that, she worked in the English section of the cryptography department until her transfer to Istanbul. Before meeting Bond, she had had three lovers. Afterwards, she doubtless won't be satisfied with any more. (FRWL)

Romanov Star
An incredibly valuable piece of jewellery, kept at the National Fine Art Repository in Moscow - at least, until General Orlov has it replaced by a fake so he can sell the original. The original piece gives away Bond's presence to Mishka, when he sees 007's reflection in the facets of its central gem. (OP)

Rome Affair, The
Mission that Bond successfully completed with the help of Miss Caruso before being assigned to investigate the deaths of three MI6 agents. (LALD)

Room 4
Sir Hilary Bray's (aka Bond's) room at Piz Gloria. (OHMSS)

Room 8
Ruby Bartlett's room at Piz Gloria. Bond pays her a visit there one night; the next evening he tries again, only to discover the entirely less welcome presence of Irma Bunt and Grunther. (OHMSS)

Room 12
One of Dr No's less-comfortable guest quarters, this is where he chains Honey Ryder to a sloping concrete slab so she would be drowned by the slowly rising water level. (DN)

Room 17
The number of Bond's office in the Universal Export building. (OHMSS)

Room 27
Bond's suite at the Shednovaz Hotel in Delhi. (OP)

Room 119
Felix Leiter's hotel room in Miami Beach. (GF)

Room 602
Andrea's room at the Peninsula Hotel, Hong Kong. (TMWTGG)

Royal Orleans Hotel
New Orleans hotel where Bond planned to meet with Felix Leiter. (LALD)

Roy Bower featuring King Erison Combo
Band playing at the Kiss Kiss club on Junkanoo night. (TB)

Rozaki
The name of a cave near the island of Matsu. The lava tube connects to SPECTRE's base, which is why they have pumped it full of deadly gas to keep intruders away. A diving girl took her boat into the cave only to drift out dead, which gives Bond the location of the base. (YOLT)

Routemaster Bus
Not everyone's idea of the perfect getaway vehicle, but in Bond's hands even an ageing ex-London Transport double-decker can be used to escape from pursuing police cars and motorbikes - allowing for some minor body damage, like the loss of the entire upper deck... (LALD)

RSO 522
Registration of the silver Rolls-Royce that brings Bond and Pam Bouvier to the Hotel Mary Tierra in Isthmus City. The car is later driven by Q, acting as chauffeur. (LTK)

Rubavitch
(Virginia Hay)
General Pushkin's mistress, whose room Bond invades prior to his intended assassination of the general. He tears off her bra in order to distract a guard who enters the room long enough to knock him out.
NB: In the original draft of the script, Pushkin's part was written for Gogol. For some reason this was changed, though the name of the general's mistress underwent a less extensive alteration! (TLD)

Rublevich
(Eva Rueber-Staier)
General Gogol's secretary, who gets closer to her boss the longer she works with him.
NB: In her first appearance in TSWLM, Rublevich is credited as 'Rubelvitch', but in this case it's majority rules. (TSWLM, FYEO, OP)

Rufigo
An Italian town and the scene of a disastrous flood, used as an excuse for Draco to take his fleet of helicopters into controlled airspace in the Swiss alps. (OHMSS)

'Rule Britannia'
The tune whose first five bars Bond has to whistle to activate the stun gas cartridge in his keyring. (TLD)

Rule Number 1
One of Tiger Tanaka's codes for living life; never do something for yourself when someone else can do it for you. (YOLT)

Rule Number 2
Another of Tanaka's codes of conduct; in Japan, men always come first. On hearing this, Bond says that he may just retire to there. (YOLT)

Rum
A drink Quarrel enjoys, occasionally to excess (DN). Its flammable nature lets Bond escape from Fiona Volpe and her associates when he splashes a drunk's bottle inside their car and ignites it with her lighter (TB).

Rum Collins
Drink offered to Bond by Largo at his house. (TB)

Russhon, General
Commander of the forces stationed at Fort Knox. (GF)

Russian Consulate
The Istanbul consulate is where Tatiana Romanova works, in the signal room. The building suffers damage when Kerim Bey detonates a bomb and fills it with tear gas, so that Bond can enter and steal the Lektor coding machine. (FRWL)

RVC 435H
Registration number of Peter Franks's Triumph Stag. (DAF)

Ryder, Dr
Honey's father, a marine biologist, was killed by Dr No's forces while searching Crab Key for seashells. His body was never found. (DN)

Ryder, Honey
(Ursula Andress)
A young woman who Bond encounters at Crab Key. Honey had come to Jamaica with her father, a marine biologist, but his death had left her having to fend for herself. She does this by finding and selling rare seashells.
Her father's travels had taken Honey to the Philippines, Bali and Hawaii before she reached the Caribbean. She never went to school, instead working her way through an encyclopaedia - by the time she met Bond, she had reached 'D'. Since she started at 'A' when she was eight, one can only assume she was a slow reader. However, her wealth of other experiences make up for any educational shortfalls.
Honey was once raped by an older man with whom she was staying. She responded by putting a black widow spider under his mosquito net. Fortunately, Bond fares rather better with his advances, especially after he rescues her from drowning. (DN)

R4641
Registration of Bond's horsebox-towing Range Rover convertible, used in Cuba to transport his Acrostar jet. (OP)
