Web resources that I found useful on the web - mostly for you, mom (the travel agent), and Arabella (who is planning a honeymoon in Italy)!
Welcome to Italy | One of the best sites for hotel screening. Great search engine, Lots of pictures, explict hotel features. One-line booking (that works - booked Poppi & Lucci). And more images!
Italy Hotel Reservation | Another useful hotel site, can easily search by city. Links to hotels with on-line bookings. I booked Firenze through here.
Castles of Tuscany | This is an incredible site, this wonderful person has pictured and described all of the castles (and other historical sites) in Tuscany, and has put them on a clickable map. I used this page extensively when planning my trip.
Italy On-Line | Lots of things about Italy, not many inexpensive hotels listed, but lots of unusual rentals like castles & villas. Offers information about cooking schools, language courses, bike tours, and more.
Travelscape.com | I usually use previewtravel.com, but I found an uncomparable rate with travelscape. My ticket was $522 (LA-Pisa) booked less than 2 weeks before my trip. It also had a clever search engine that looked at nearby airports - I did my search on Florence (where tickets were $1200ish). If you become a bizrater (free), you can get 2.5% off.
Terra di Tuscony | An unusual Tuscan Site - celebrates the emotion of Tuscany
Ferrovie dello stato | Official web page for the Italian Railroad. Use Italian city names for timetables.
Italian Tourist | Nice pictures, site has great search engines for finding particular towns. Does not have many links to hotel web pages and listings are not very comprehensive (doesn't have some of the place's I'm staying). |
