美國將棒球奉為「國家娛樂」（National Pastime），其來有自。杜魯門總統在位時，設立了民權委員會，下令軍隊取消種族隔離，也因此聯邦政府任職的黑人日益增多。同時，兩個最重要的職業運動聯盟，大聯盟和NBA當局，開始接受黑人球員加盟。從90年代起，美國大聯盟成為全世界一流球員匯聚一堂的舞台，打破種族、膚色、國家、地域的圈限，頗有世界大同、和平競爭的意味。
在美國球場稱為Ball Park，有的稱為Stadium。過去的一個世紀中，美國的棒球場的設計一波一波的在演進。早期的球賽就只在圍著圍牆的場地中進行。在大城市內的球場，通常為了妥協擁擠的市區道路規劃，因而設計出不同的形狀。1923年Yankee Stadium 的建立後，球場規模開始愈來愈大。在1960年代，圓形建築、多用途和簡潔風格主宰了球場發展的風潮。過去十多年來，有超過一打以上的新落成球場，在球團們為增加球迷看球樂趣和收益的目的下開始啟用，而票也越來越貴(1858年明星賽門票只要50cent)。但有趣的是，近期落成的球場，都反而朝向復古風潮，模仿早期的球場特色。例如高聳的外野全壘打牆和磚牆結構。二十一世紀美國的球場，已經不只是看球的場所，同時也是享受美食和地方特色佳餚之處，觀看展覽之處，甚至在亞利桑那可以是游泳之處。你可以在不同各地嚐到如密爾瓦基的啤酒和臘腸(bratwurst)、巴爾的摩的蟹餅(crabcake)、堪薩斯城的BBQ、波士頓的海鮮濃湯(clam chowder)、和西雅圖的Sushi。目前總計大聯盟有球場30座，3A30座，2A及1A大約有100餘座，分佈又以美東密度較高。當然這是一個不容易完成的任務，我們僅希望以有限的時間和經費，把足跡遍佈各地，將我們所見及觀感作成記錄，並依個人經驗加上評比，以供參考。
