ELECTROLYSIS ASSISTANCE We recognize that the transgender community is especially affected by poverty which is exacerbated by routine job-related discrimination. We seek to empower unemployed transgenders in their quest to become productive members of society. "More than 40% of the cases we recorded during the past three years dealt with employment situations. In half of those cases, the person was fired. In general, the firing occurred within a few months after the person's gender identity became known. In three of these cases, the company had employed the individual for over 15 years… The timing of the firing left no doubt as to the motive behind it." - Discrimination and Hate Crimes Against Transgendered People in Illinois, 1998 Many transgenders find themselves in a catch-22 situation: They have lost their job or have had to suffer a drastic reduction in pay due to their transition. In order to become marketable as a presentable employee, many transsexuals are forced to purchase electrolysis. However, many cannot afford electrolysis because they are not employed. Thus, one more issue is contributed to a vicious cycle of unemployment and unmet needs. We seek to do provide every reasonable service which will empower unemployed transgenders to become marketable and ultimately employed. The many problems a transgender must face can be aggravated by an inability to purchase electrolysis. Community Awareness for Transgender Support has provided no-cost or low-cost electrolysis to our community's disadvantaged since November of 2000. If you are a transgender who cannot afford electrolysis, please contact CATS at 281-585-8089. NOTE: ALL APPLICANTS MUST MEET MINIMUM PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS. CONTACT CATS FOR MORE INFORMATION. |
