What makes Eric so interesting??  His MUSIC, of course!  And interesting I might say... he has made lots of albums and each one of them is like "..snapshots of where and artist is at at a particular moment..", as mentioned by Eric in Easy Street.  Each album has its own sound and style, and are clearly defined from one another.  No doubt, all his albums are fantastic!  But then, how good is his music, I cannot describe... it's up to you to listen to him yourself... and it comes highly recommended from me!

Anyway, here are the list of albums that he has made....

Walk Tall

Easy Street

Street Dance

Voices From The Heart

WALK TALL © 1998 Polygram Records/i.e.music

Featuring:  Lee Ritenour, Harvey Mason, Rob Mullins, Russell Ferrante, Melvin Davis, Jeff Lorber, Chris Botti, Vail Johnson, Stanley Clarke, John Beasley, Luis Conte, and more.

This is the latest release by Eric as a tribute to Julian "Cannonball" Adderly, one of Eric's favourite
saxophonist and main influence. In this outing, he plays songs which Cannonball played and some wonderful standards, such as Mercy, Mercy, Mercy, Work Song, Walk Tall, The Way You Look Tonight, Unit 7, Country Preacher, Skylark, as well as some originals from Eric, Rob Mullins, Russell Ferrante, Harvey Mason and Jeff Lorber, such as Imagine That, Here In My Heart, Sunstone, If You Need Me To, and Groove Runner. Listen to Eric play these standards Eric Marienthal-style. This is album is produced by Harvey Mason, Lee Ritenour, and Eric himself. This album also features the talents of Lee, Harvey, Chris Botti, Rob Mullins, Vail Johnson (Kenny G's former bassist), Jeff Lorber, Melvin Davis, and more. Check out Eric's bio and some sound samples of "Walk Tall" at his homepage.

EASY STREET © 1997 Polygram Records/Verve/i.e.music

Featuring: Lee Ritenour, Melvin Davis, Hillary Jones, Rick Braun, Cassio Duarte, Vesta, Angelo, Rob
Mullins, Sonny Emory, Jeff Lorber, John Beasley, Don Grusin

This is Eric's eighth album, and a debut under newly-formed label i.e.music, under Polygram Records.  By far, this has been one of the best solo albums yet, with collaborative efforts with big names like Lee Ritenour, Jeff Lorber, and Don Grusin.  In this outing, there's a strong mix influence of R&B infused
with jazz.  Favourites include Easy Street, Tuesday's Delight, the funky New Jack Saturday, Half &
Half, the blues number The Sun Died, the ballad Last Day Of Summer, and Backstage.  As always, Eric never fails to impress listeners with his cool phrasing, solid lines, his emotion-filled melodies and passionate lyricism.  Eric's maturity as a musician is clearly evident in this album.  This is by far, one of Eric's best work.

ERIC MARIENTHAL COLLECTION © 1996 GRP Records

This seventh album contains a compilation of Eric's best solo works along the years. Contains wonderful songs like Written In The Wind, Oasis, That's The Way, Street Dance, Hustlin', Walk Through The Fire, The Sun Was In My Eyes, Lagenda, and many more.  Good piece to check out to hear out his best works to date.

STREET DANCE © 1994 GRP Records

Featuring:  Russell Ferrante, Jeff Lorber, Gary Burton, Paulinho Da Costa, David Benoit, Anthony
Fernandes, Paul Jackson Jr., Eric Jordan, Michael Landau, Alec Milstein, Leroy Osbourne, Jeff Pescetto, Eugene Pao, Nathaniel Phillips, John Robinson.

This is Eric's sixth solo outing with GRP.  This is also one of my favourite albums from Eric.  This album gives a mix of funky, jazzy numbers.  This album also shows a more emotional side of Eric, with good numbers such as the ballady Where You Belong, the funky Street Dance, the ethnic and exotic Fafaru (my favourite song!), the tickling Kid's Stuff, and more.  Definitely a good piece to check out!

ONE TOUCH © 1993 GRP Records

Featuring:  Alex Acuña, Carl Anderson, David Benoit, Paulinho Da Costa, Russell Ferrante, Dave Koz, Jimmy Haslip, Paul Jackson Jr., Ivan Lins, Jeff Lorber, John Robinson.

This is Eric's fifth solo outing.  This is my very FIRST Eric Marienthal album that I bought.  When I
first heard it, I was rather stunned by his solos and lines.  The first song, No Doubt About It pretty
much blew me away with its funky beat and wailing solos!  The next surprise was listening to Eric play side-by-side with another of my favourite sax player, DAVE KOZ, on That's The Way!  Many other cool songs such as One For James, Westland, and Where Are You shows Eric's uncanny talent in handling different styles and genres, as well as doing smooth stuff!

OASIS © 1991 GRP Records

Featuring:  Jeff Lorber, Russell Ferrante, Jimmy Haslip, Robben Ford, John Robinson, Alex Acuna,
John Patittucci, "Perri", Oliver Leiber, Alec Milstein, and Ma Chen.

This is Eric's fourth outing.  This was a joint collaboration with two of the most influential
producers/artists in the contemporary jazz industry, Jeff Lorber and Russell Ferrante.  Their
influence in this album is distinct, and Eric blends in perfectly with both producers.  With Jeff, there is
a more upbeat and funky setting, while with Russell, Eric plays in a more acoustic setting.  Combines
different moods, from the exotic Oasis, to a ballady Understanding, the funky Seafood To Go, the
latin-influenced Barcelona, and also the gospel/blues-like Just To See You Again

CROSSROADS @ 1990 GRP Records

Featuring: Chick Corea, Dave Weckl, John Patitucci, Russell Ferrante, Vinnie Colaiuta, Terry Lyne Carrington, Alex Acuna, Dave Witham, John Beasley.

This third outing Eric has a strong influence reminiscent from his Chick Corea days.  This album has a more fusion sound, but at different moods and settings.  This is the only album that Eric played tenor sax as the solo instrument, in Schmooze.  There's also the tickling Two Bits (good soprano work), and the melancholic Rain On The Roof.  There's also a ballady, cool, fusion number Spoons; a more straight-ahead jazz setting at Upside Down.  Definitely a good check-out, especially for fusion fans.  This is probably one of Eric's more 'experimental' period, trying to find his sound.

ROUND TRIP © 1989 GRP Records

Featuring: Chick Corea, John Patitucci, Mitchel Forman, Dave Weckl, John Robinson, Carlos Rios, Alex Acuña, Dave Witham, Don Grusin, Frank Gambale, Lou Pardini.

This second album marks a more different approach from the first album.  Although it still retains a
Corea-esque fusion sound, this outing begins to show Eric's ability to create moods in his melodies and solos.  Some of my favourite songs are Moonwalk, Afrique, Round Trip, Lee Ann, and Serengeti.  This album is also the first to feature vocals by Lou Pardini on I'm Gonna Wait For Your Love.

VOICES OF THE HEART © 1988 GRP Records

Featuring: Chick Corea, John Patitucci, Jim Cox, Vinnie Colaiuta, Pat Kelly, Frank Gambale, Luis Conte.

Eric's first solo album under GRP Records.  I would say that this is a good start for Eric.  One of the nicest number in this album is the ballad Written In The Wind.  This album also features the Elektric Band members supporting Eric in this debut.
