One of the most wonderful things I've found in my life so far is getting to learn and play the saxophone and getting exposed to jazz.  I first got into saxophones and saxophone music sometime in 1992, when I was 13.  I was like any other kid, then.  Music never really meant much to me at first, although I did reasonably well in elementary school music.  I did listen to music a lot, mostly pop music.  Jazz, then was totally isolated from me, could never understand it.  But in 1992, Dave Koz released his debut album, Dave Koz, and for no apparent reason, I was suddenly intrigued by him and his music.  I've never really took to saxophone music seriously, but all that changed when I got Dave's album.  I suddenly got hooked to the sound of the saxophone like never before.  Not too long after that, I had this crazy desire to play the saxophone.  My knowledge in jazz then was pretty non-existent then, and it didn't matter to me what music it was.  I just had to play the sax.

It was in 1993 that I got my first saxophone.  I guess it was fate, but my start at the sax was really a rocky one, really.  My first sax, an alto, was a piece of junk, and I got conned at buying it a high price.  By the way, I got rid of that sax a long time ago.  Even my first teacher I went to, who incidentally works with the people whom I bought that junk sax from, was lousy (or at least, so I found out much later).  Then, I moved on to other teachers, and got myself a new saxophone, a soprano.  I fell in love with the soprano, on the first time I tried one.  The sound was just... wonderful.  I would think that my affinity would be towards more to alto sax and soprano sax than other saxes.

Later on, as I progressed (painfully slowly), I began to listen to other sax players and learnt a lot by listening to them.  I have to admit, though, although after 7 years of sax-playing, I have not mastered the sax.  This is because I did not have a proper teacher to really instruct me on the proper techniques on embrochure, breathing, and stuff like that.  And up to this date, I'm beginning to learn some of the more correct techniques and so I'm threading on the path to master the saxophone.  I guess I would be one of those who would have to take the hard road to learn it well...

Anyway, here is some stuff about my sax life..
