Here are some pics of myself
in 'action'... playing the sax! I've actually enjoyed some of the
opportunities that I've had in playing the sax 'live' for people.
In fact, playing live was (and still is) one of the most pleasant experience
in my years of sax playing. I've had some bad times and a lot of
good times. But when you're at top form when playing.. it feels like
heaven! I'm sure many of you who play music, who have played 'live'
must feel the same way!
But well, here goes..
This is me, playing in the
PRIME College ball in 1996. I was playing Forever In Love,
by Kenny G, and I was accompanied by a pianist friend of mine. Looking
behind me behind the stage is my friend Jeff (pic's not clear though).
This one was a little screwed up though... I've had problems with the sax
at the time (I dropped it.. so the neck was a little bent), and had problems
with embrochures then. So the tuning was quite off... not too good
an experience with that one. Not only that, there was a stage management
problem, so I didn't get the right mics.. had to use of of those multi-directional
mics.. which made me sound like a frog!!
Here's another one..
(gee...i sure look like some dork,
don't i??)
This one is a little more
interesting. This gig was a saxophone competition. It was a
Kenny G Greatest Hits Saxophone Competition in December 1997 which was
held in conjunction with Kenny's release of his Greatest Hits album.
So this was really a album promotion thing which BMG organised. It
was fun nonetheless. There was plenty of participants including myself,
getting together and playing Kenny G songs. I was one of the youngest
participants (being 19 then) there. In fact, I was the youngest..
although there was a another contestant (a friend of mine) who's the same
age as I am. So, the two of us were the youngest. I didn't
win this thing of course.. I'm not THAT good. But it was pretty fun
really.. getting so see some sax players in Malaysia. The most funny
thing was that ALL of the contestants played the soprano sax. Talk
about the Kenny G effect, eh?? Regarding this picture.. I've had
people telling me I look like an old man.. Hahahaha.. what a drag!
This picture actually came
out as an article for The New Straits Times YouthQuake. I
was quite shocked really, that I actually appeared on the paper.
It was sort of a booster to get your face on the paper (as long if it's
not for a criminal act! LOL!)
These are some of the
pics that I actually got scanned. Unfortunately, I don't have more
pictures than this. But when I do, I'm sure to post them up!
Anyway, I hope you've enjoyed these pictures. Do feel free to e-mail
me with comments and suggestions.. thanks!
