The phone rang, it was the animal control officer.  He had three barely alive raccoon orphans. Click here for More Baby Pictures And that's how we got Katie, Dale Coonhardt and Squakie. We have to tell you there wasn't a lot of picture They played, they slept and did all baby raccoon things. There was such a big responsibility with these new babies Click here for More of Fred and the Babies And so they flourished and they were growing and they were turning into fine young raccoons !

Their Mamma had been hit by a car on her first night out to feed.  Could we possibly come get them ?
To this day, the Mom can't believe she left our property looking like that !
taking going on - eat, sleep, poop, eat, sleep, poop and a lot of laundry and a whole lot of squaking going on.
That's how little Squakie got his name. He missed his Mamma so bad he refused to eat. Unwilling to let him go,
the Folks rubbed his throat and tummy to get him to swallow.....and it worked!
that the Mom didn't have a lot of time for crying and the Dad pitched in and helped and Fred didn't spend near as
much time at Maggie's grave anymore as he had a lot of teaching, a lot of loving and a lot of protecting to do !
They were almost grown now. Fred had taught them everything he knew and soon it would be time for them to leave.
In the fall of their first year, male raccoons instinctively know they must leave their Mamma's den site. Females may
spend their first winter with their Mamma and then start their own lives in the spring. If a male is unwilling to leave,
the Mamma will viciously drive him away, grieving all the while. This is Nature's way of preventing inbreeding.
It was time.
Squakie was the first to leave on a cold October's eve. The Mom slept on the back porch for several nights
"just in case" he might want to come back. They never saw Squakie again. Dale Coonhardt was not willing to
leave, so as heartbreaking as it was, the Folks had to do the raccoon thing and take him out to the
woods where they left food and water and could only Pray that he would be O.K.
Travel wisely sweet things....
Katie, well Katie thought this place was pretty fine so she decided to stay......
