Some of you may have heard that Little Girl, Rehab Class of '99, came back to our house......well,
actually our attic to give birth to her very first litter of kits.  Little Girl and her very best friend Abbey
overwintered in the oak tree not far from our home. When Abbey passed,  Little Girl, the shy one,
returned to the "comfort" and safety she had grown up in and to our absolute delight, had chosen
our attic as her birthing den. This picture was taken mere hours before the birthing process began.
She had been coming into the house for several nights and was playing like there was no tomorrow.
It dawned on us that she was trying to induce labor.     She was and she did.
Ha ha ha, we like to think she was practicing !!
It was very hard not to chuckle at her amazement and "exploration" of her new "mommy tummy".
So off to our attic she went to give birth to her most prized possession, 5 wonderful healthy kits.  We bought a baby monitor and installed it in the attic and were blessed to share her experience - then cursed when she got bored and used the heat/air ducts as her personal runway. *sigh* The first week feedings were very regimented, exactly two hours apart. We joked that we could tell what time it was by the activity of the "upstairs" neighbors. Week two saw the feedings spread out to three hours and by week three, almost four hours apart. Between feedings there was absolutely no noise or sounds of any kind made by the babies. If one became restless, Little Girl chirred a very soft, soothing lullabye, which we were able to record.
Fresh food and water were taken up daily as well as her "poop" pan cleaned. At the end of three
weeks, Little Girl appeared extremely aggitated. We soon realized she could not get out, carrying
a kit, through the same small opening which she had originally gained access. What are proud "Grandcoonparents" to do ? Cut a larger opening in the roof ! And of course an inside ramp leading
up to it. Within mere moments of this new exit, Little Girl started bringing her kits out, one by one,
to show off to the whole world.
So you see Barb, you and Lee aren't the only crazy ones !!
