in Ovid, MI. Bruce Donald Smith graduated from Perry High in 1957. He attended
M,S,U, in E. Lansing,working as a teller in Lansing also E. Lansing Banks,
After graduating from the State Police Academy in E. Lansing he was
assigned posts at Grand Haven, East Tawas and then East Lansing . He left the
E. Tawas Post because he volunteered for the dog handling program in East
Lansing which proved a rewarding experience. He became acquainted and
trained "Tonka" who became a legend in the area. Bruce became a popular
public speaker about the dog training program.While on routine duty on
the E.Lansing Post, he found it necessary to stop an Alabama car with
three men. They were taken to the station and found two were serving
time for murder and the other for grand larceny and burglary. They told
detectives that they were watching for a chance to kill Bruce as
they were nearly to their safety destination. But Bruce made no
mistakes. He was later awarded a medal for heroisn because of his
good police work and bravery. Bruce as a State Police and his uncle
Norm Rosen,as a National Guard,were both dispatched to Detroit for
two weeks during the 1967 race roits when much of down-town Detroit
was burned. Bruce is now a Sgt. at the Owosso State Police Post.
Linda and Bruce were divorced in 1974. He is now married to Deborah
Chamberlain Scarlett and they have a country home near Ovid.

Deborah is a daughter of Colonel and Mrs. Kenneth Chamberlain
attended schools in several States including Hawaii. She is a graduate

Dwyer Smith.

Linda Clouse Smith graduated from Lansing High School in 1959·
She was a book-keeper for a Floral place until her marriage.When
Bruce was transferred to East Lansing they built a home in Woodhull
Twsp., Shiawassee Co. where Linda and the children live. She is an
energetic and vivacious person and was a very good teacher's aide
in the Perry schools for several years. She is now employed in the
office of the Dudley Paper Co. of Lansing. She is studying at
Lansing Community College to become a dental technician. She enjoys
sewing, knitting, swimming and skating. Her nationality is Dutch & English,
Michael Bruce and Wendy Smith are both excellent students at the
Perry schools. They are both active in sports and Scout work. Michael was
voted king of his 8th grade class and Wendy has been out-standing
as a cheer-leader since the 7th grade.

engineer in a boat pool delivering supplies and ammunition to air-craft

Eva Jeanne graduated from Central(Sexton)High School in Lansing, where

contest, After Don's return they bought land from Don's father and built
their present home. In community work, Jeanne headed the United Fund Drive
for Perry Township for many years. She joined the Order of Eastern Star #221
of Perry in 1948, holding many of the offices during the years. She joined the
International Order of King's Daughters in 1948, holding offices of Treasurer,
Secretary,Vice President and 8 years as President of the Willing Workers
Circle of Woodhull Twsp. At the County level of the King's Daughters she has
served many.years as County Chairman for the Camp Missaukee at Lake City. owned
by the K.D. Also Publicity Chr. of the County and two years as 2nd Vice Pres.
of.the County. At the state level , she served as special representative of
the
State President to raise money for a new Lodge at Camp Missaukee.
Jeann'e loves music and is a talented pianist. Both Jeanne and Don enjoy
the outdoors. They have a cottage on the AuSable River, Their hobbies are
