Kid's Shows

You Can't Do that On Television - this was one of the funniest shows I watched while growing up.  Who could forget the green slime?!

Double Dare - featured Marc Summers as the host.  This was a kids game show.  The kids would try to answer trivia questions.  If they didn't know, they could dare the other team.  Then the other team could double dare them back.  They'd have to answer it or take the physical challenge - which was usually some type of event that featured throwing food at your teammates.

Mr. Wizard's World - Mr. Wizard did some really cool experiments on the show.  I particular remember them taping together straws to try and slip grapejuice up a 5 story building.

Out of Control - this show was broadcast on Nickelodeon.  It featured Dave Coulier of "Full House" fame.  It was pretty wacky.

Cartoons:

Thundercats this cartoon had some really cool animation, but I never got into the storylines.

G.I. Joe - this was one of the coolest cartoons.

Transformers - another great cartoon.  It featured the good Autobots battling against the evil Decepticons.

Smurfs - this appealed more to girls.  But they did have a tremendous impact on toy sales in the 1980s.

M.A.S.K.- pretty good show featuring vehicles that changed into other vehicles.  Somewhat the same concept as Transformers.

Speed Racer - I've watched this show recently and must say that it isn't as good as I remember it.  I think it is a little over hyped now.  It had too much Japanimation which was poor quality.

Scooby Doo - this show was leftover from the 70's Saturday mornings.  This inspired a cult following of fans.  I never liked the shows with Scappy in them.

Bullwinkle - "Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat."  This cartoon was originally made in the 60's.  Although I didn't get some of the jokes then, this cartoon is even funnier now.

Voltron - can you say "Japanimation?"  This was somewhat like a soap opera as in it had a continuing storyline.

He-Man - This was a good show about the battle of good vs. evil.  It featured the star character, He-Man battling Skeletor and his evil henchmen.

Superfriends- excellent show featuring Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, and a bunch of other comic book heroes.  The shows featuring the Legion of Doom were the best.  The shows with the Wonder Twins shows were terrible!

Fat Albert - Narrated by Bill Cosby.  This was one of the first cartoons which appealed to inner city black youth.  However, the show eventually had a universal appeal.

Here's a memorable exchange I remember from the show:

Fat Albert:  Weird Harold, you're like school on Saturday

Weird Harold:  How's that, Fat Albert?

    Fat Albert:  NO CLASS!

Spiderman - this show was originally shown sometime in the 60s.  It usually featured 2 mini-shows within the 30 minute time frame.
