Late Night Comedies: Tonight Show withJohnny Carson Johnny was never all that funny. Did you notice that the ratings grew when Jay Leno took over? However I feel that they would have done better with Letterman hosting it. Letterman is much funnier than Leno. Saturday Night Live...remember when it was funny? Pat Sajak's show....it was pretty sad and not all that funny. Conan O'Brien still uses some of its recycled humor. Game Shows: The Price is Right Hosted by Bob Barker. Who could forget Bob telling viewers to "Remember to have your pets spayed or neutered." Come On Down...you're the next contestant to play "The Price is Right!" The funny thing was I always got Bob Barker and Bob Hope mixed up. I expected to see the wrong Bob on the Bob Hope Specials. $25,000 Pyramid Hosted by Dick Clark. This show consisted of a Charades-type game using words instead of actions. The winner's circle round was very exciting. Family Feud Hosted first by Richard Dawson, then later by Ray Combs who later committed suicide in a mental ward. Very sad. But the game show was great. "Survey says!" Win, Lose, or Draw...this was an original concept for a game show having contestants use a pen and canvas to draw out a situation or concept. However it ended up being one of the most overplayed party games of the decade. Burt Reynolds had a hand in playing it. Hollywood Squares You knew a celebrity was washed up when they appeared on Hollywood Squares. There's only so much Joan Rivers and Jim J. Bullock you can take! Password "The Password is aardvark" This was an okay show, although later on I could have fallen asleep watching it. Let's Make a Deal Hosted by Monty Hall. You'd better not get get zonked. Contested dressed in some wild constumes to compete in trading games. Would like what's behind door number 3 or take what's in this box? Jeopardy A game show for really intelligent people. Still no matter how hard it seemed, I feel that I could have held my own if I ever made it on this show. Wheel of Fortune A really bad game show. I'm surprised it lasted so long. All the shows were the same except for the puzzles. The contestants could never solve the last puzzle. Match Game - this show was absolutely hilarious. It was more of a comedy hour rather than a game show. Press Your Luck - "Big Money, No Whammies!" This show was really good for a short time. But then it became annoying! Card Sharks - This show lasted for a short time. You guessed, it involved cards but the exact premise I don't remember. I think it involved guessing percentages. Scrabble - pretty good show. Though it lasted for a short time on network programming and had a much longer life on USA Network. Tic Tac Dough...get the Tic
and Tac and you get the Dough (and maybe a Buick). Watch out for
the dragon! Hosted by Wink Martindale.
Other Shows: Ripley's Believe it or Not - this show was just weird at times. Jack Pallance narrated it. His voice was creepy. That's Incredible - John Davidson and Sarah Percell hosted it. Bloopers and Practical Jokes - I enjoyed the Bloopers tremendously. I hated the practical jokes. Seemed like this show had a ton of commercials. Unsolved Mysteries - Hosted by Robert Stack. This was pretty creepy at times. But it was always good to find that they had solved a mystery. Later on, it just got plain dumb. They started doing shows about Elvis's death and UFO's.
