When I Say I Am A Christian
~ Carol Wimmer
When I say, "I am a Christian,"
I'm not shouting, "I am saved!"
I'm whispering, "I get lost;
That is why I chose this way."
When I say, "I am a Christian,"
I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble
And need Someone to be my Guide.
When I say, "I am a Christian,"
I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak,
And pray for strength to carry on.
When I say, "I am a Christian,"
I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed
And cannot ever pay the debt.
When I say, "I am a Christian,"
I'm not claiming to be perfect.
My flaws are all too visible,
But God believes I'm worth it.
When I say, "I am a Christian,"
I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches,
Which is why I speak His name.
When I say, "I am a Christian,"
I do not wish to judge.
I have no authority;
I only know I'm loved.

You ask why I follow this Jesus?
~ Unknown
You ask why I follow this Jesus?
Why I love Him the way that I do?
When the world's turned away from His teachings
And the people who serve Him are few.
It's not the rewards that I'm After
Or gifts that I hope to receive;
It's the presence that calls for commitment;
It's the Spirit I trust and believe.
The Lord doesn't shelter His faithful
Or spare them all suffering and pain;
Like everyone else I have burdens
And walk through my share of the rain.
Yet He gives me a plan and a purpose
and that joy only Christians have known;
I never know what comes tomorrow,
But I do know I'm never alone.
It's the love always there when you need it;
It's the words that redeem and inspire;
It's the longing to ever be with Him
That Burns in my heart like a fire.
So you ask why I love my Lord Jesus?
Well, friend, that's so easy to see;
But the one thing that fills me with wonder
Is Why Jesus Loves someone like me.

On the Wings of Prayer
~ Unknown
Just close your Eyes and open your heart,
And feel your worries and cares depart.
Just yield yourself to the Father above,
And let him hold you secure in his love.
For life on earth grows more involved,
With endless problems that can't be solved,
But God only asks us to do our best,
Then he will take over and finish the rest...
So when you are tired, discouraged and blue,
There is always one door that is open to you,
And that is the door to The House of Prayer,
And you'll find God waiting to meet you there.
And The House of Prayer is no further away,
than the quiet spot where you kneel and pray.
For the heart is a temple when God is there
As we place ourselves in his loving care.
And he hears every prayer and answers each one
When we Pray in His name - Thy will be done.
The burdens that seemed too heavy to bear
Are lifted away on the wings of a prayer.

Twas the Night Before Jesus Came
~ Unknown
Twas the night before Jesus came and all through the house the house not a creature
was praying, not one in the house. Their Bibles were lain on the shelf without care
in hopes that Jesus would not come there.
The children were dressing to crawl into bed,
not once ever kneeling or bowing a head, and mom in her rocker with baby on her lap was
watching the late show while I took a nap.
When out of the East there arose such a clatter, I sprang to my feet to see what was the
matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, tore open the shutters and threw up the
sash!
When what to my wondering eyes should appear but angels proclaiming that Jesus was here.
With a light like the sun sending forth a bright ray, I knew in a moment this must be THE
DAY!
The light of His face made me cover my head. It was Jesus! Returning just like He had said.
And though I possessed worldy wisdom and wealth, I cried when I saw Him in spite of myself.
In the Book of Life which He held in His hand, was written the names of every saved man.
He spoke not a word as He searched for my name; when He said "It is not here" my head hung
in shame.
The people whose names had been written with love He gathered to take to His Father above.
With those who were ready He rose without a sound while all the rest were left standing
around.
I fell to my knees, but it was too late; I had waited too long and thus sealed my fate. I
stood and I cried as they rose out of sight; Oh, IF ONLY I had been ready tonight.
In the words of this poem the meaning is clear; the coming of Jesus is drawing near. There's
only one life and when comes the last call we'll find that the Bible was true after all!
Are YOU ready?

At the Foot of the Cross
~Marcia Krugh Leaser
Fearing the battle was over
and I'd already lost the war,
I was tired of trying and failing.
I just couldn't fight anymore.
So, dragging my battle-scarred body,
I crawled to the foot of the cross.
And I sobbed. 'Oh please, Father forgive me.
But I tried...I tried.. and still lost.'
Then the air grew silent around me.
I heard his voice just as clear as the dawn:
'Oh, My child, though you are tired and weary,
you can't stop, you have to go on.'
At the foot of the Cross , where I met Him,
At the foot of the Cross, where He died,
I felt love, as I knelt in His presence.
I felt hope, as I looked in His eyes.
Then He gathered me lovingly to Him,
as around us God's light clearly shone.
And together we walked though my lifetime
to heal every wound I had known.
I found bits of my dreams, long forgotten,
and pieces of my life on the floor.
But I watched as He tenderly blessed them,
and my life was worth living once more.
I knew then why I had been losing.
I knew why I had not grown.
At the foot of the Cross came the answer:
I'd been fighting the battle alone.
At the foot of the Cross, where I met Him,
At the foot of the Cross, where He died,
Then I knew I could face any challenge
together--just my Lord and I.

Are You Passing Through a Testing?
~ John E. Zoller
Are you passing through a testing?
Do you wonder what the reason,
Why it seems God never hears?
Why it is you have no answer
To your often-repeated plea,
Why the heaven still is leaden.
As you wait on bended knee?
Do you wonder as you suffer,
Whether God does understand,
And if so, why He ignores you,
Fails to hold you in His Hand?
Do black doubts creep in, assail you,
Fears without, and fears within,
Till your brave heart almost falters
And gives way to deadly sin?
All God's testings have a purpose-
Some day you will see the light.
All He asks is that you trust Him,
Walk by faith and not by sight.
Do not fear when doubts beset you,
Just remember-He is near;
He will never, never leave you,
He will always, always hear.
Faithful is He who has promised,
He will never let you fall,
Daily will the strength be given
Strength for each and strength for all.
He will gladly share pain with you,
He will gladly give you peace.
Till your tired and weary body
Finds its blessed, glad release.
When the darkened veil is lifted,
Then, dear heart, you'll understand
Why it is you had to suffer,
Why you could not feel His hand
Giving strength when it was needed,
Giving power and peace within
Giving joy thru tears and trial,
Giving victory over sin.
So till then just keep on trusting,
Thru the sunshine and the rain,
Thru the tears and thru the heart-aches,
Thru the smiles and thru the pain-
Knowing that our Father watches,
Knowing daily strength He'll give,
Victory for each passing hour,
This is life, so let us live!

Without A Word
~ Unknown
A member of a certain church, who previously had been attending services regularly,
stopped going. After a few weeks, the pastor decided to visit him. It was a chilly evening.
The pastor found the man at home alone, sitting before a blazing fire. Guessing the reason
for his pastor's visit, the man welcomed him, led him to a big chair near the fireplace and
waited.
The pastor made himself comfortable but said nothing. In the grave silence,
he contemplated the play of the flames around the burning logs. After some minutes, the
pastor took the fire tongs, carefully picked up a brightly burning ember and placed it to
one side of the hearth all alone. Then he sat back in his chair, still silent. The host
watched all this in quiet fascination. As the one lone ember's flame diminished, there was
a momentary glow and then its fire was no more. Soon it was cold and "dead as a doornail."
Not a word had been spoken since the initial greeting. Just before the pastor was ready to
leave, he picked up the cold, dead ember and placed it back in the middle of the fire.
Immediately it began to glow once more with the light and warmth of the burning coals
around it.
As the pastor reached the door to leave, his host said, "Thank you so much for your visit
and especially for the fiery sermon. I shall be back in church next Sunday."

God Always Answers Prayers
~ Unknown
When the idea is not right, God says, "No"
No - when the idea is not the best
No - when the idea is absolutely wrong
No - when it may help you it could create problems for someone else.
When the time is not right, God says, "Slow"
What a catastrophe it would be
If God answered every prayer at the snap of your fingers.
Do you know what would happen?
God would become your servant, not your master.
Suddenly God would be working for you
Instead of you working for God.
Remember : God's delay is not God's denial
God's timing is perfect Patience is what we need in prayer.
When you are not right, God says, "Grow"
The selfish person must grow in unselfishness
The cautious person must grow in courage
The timid person must grow in confidence
The dominating person must grow in sensitivity
The critical person must grow in tolerance
The negative person must grow in positive attitudes
The pleasure-seeking person must grow in compassion for suffering people
When everything is all right, God says, "Go"
Then miracles happen A hopeless alcoholic is set free
A drug addict finds release
A doubter becomes a child in his belief
Diseased tissue responds to treatment, and healing begins
The door to your dream suddenly swings open
And there stands God saying, "Go!"

If Jesus Came
~ Unknown
Would you have to change you clothes to let Him in?
Or hide some magazines, and put the Bible where they'd been?
Would you hide your worldly music and put some hymn books out?
Could you let Jesus walk right in, or would you rush about?
And I wonder ... If the Savior spent a day with you,
Would you go right on doing the thing you always do?
Would you go right on saying the things you always say?
Or would life for you continue as it does from day to day?
Would you take Jesus with you everywhere you go?
Or would you maybe change your plans just for a day or so?
Would you be glad to have Him meet your closest friends?
Or would you hope they stay away until His visit ends?
Would you be glad to have Him stay forever on and on?
Or would you sigh with great relief when He at last was gone?
It might be interesting to know, the things you would do,
If Jesus came in person, to spend some time with you.

JesUs
~ Unknown
Before U were thought of, or time had begun,
God even stuck U in the name of His Son.
And each time U pray, you'll see it's true
You can't spell out JesUs and not include U.
You're a pretty big part of His wonderful name,
For U He was born; that's why He came.
His great love for us is the reason He died.
It even takes U to spell crUcified.
Isn't it thrilling and splendidly grand,
He rose from the dead, with U in His plan.
The stones split away; the gold trUmpet blew
and this word resUrrection is spelled with a U.
When JesUs left earth at his upward ascension,
He felt there was one thing He just had to mention.
"Go into the world and tell them it's true
That I love them all--Just like I love U."
So many great people are spelled with a U.
Don't they have a right to know JesUs too?
It all depends now on what U will do.
He'd like them to know, but it all starts with U.

O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go
~ George Matheson
O Love that wilt not let me go,
I rest my weary soul in Thee;
I give Thee back the life I owe,
that in Thine ocean depths its flow
may richer, fuller be.
O Light that followest all my way,
I yield my flickering torch to Thee;
my heart restores its borrowed ray,
that in Thy sunshine's blaze its day
may brighter, fairer be.
O Joy that seekest me through pain,
I cannot close my heart to Thee;
I climb the rainbow in the rain,
and feel the promise is not vain
that morn shall tearless be.
O Cross that liftest up my head,
I dare not ask to fly from Thee;
I lay in dust life's glory dead,
and from the ground there blossoms red
life that shall endless be.

When Jesus Looks
~ Chuck Velasco
When Jesus looks upon my life,
What picture does He see?
Does He see His own reflection,
Or does He just see me?
Does He see His likeness,
The product of His hand.
Or just another Christian,
Who never took a stand?
Does He see a child of God,
A child that He set free?
Living life to honor Him,
Or does He just see me?
What about the other folks,
I meet along the way.
Do I show them Jesus,
To brighten up their day?
When someone looks into my eyes,
Can they truly see.
That calm and gentle peace of God,
That dwells inside of me
When I reach out and shake a hand,
Is He right there in my grip?
Can they feel that strength from God,
That steadies when I slip?
When folks are in my presence,
Do they know His Spirit's there?
Can they see that He's the one,
Who guides me everywhere
When other people think of me,
What is on their mind?
Do they think of Jesus Christ,
So gentle and so kind?
I try to be like Jesus,
Every single day.
Spreading love and kindness,
All along my way.
I'm afraid that I have failed,
I could not pass the test.
Deep inside my heart I know,
I haven't done my best.
I have had to fight my flesh,
Since the day that I was born.
It's always causing trouble,
And being such a thorn.
That's why His Spirit dwells in me,
He's helping me to learn.
In every situation,
Where I need to turn.
He knew I'd never pass the test,
That's why He took my place.
He gave His life to save my soul,
He suffered my disgrace.
Now I try to be like Him,
I must present Him well.
So other folks will want His gift,
And turn their backs on hell.
Other folks should see the joy,
That Christ has given me.
They should want to have it too,
Especially since it's free.
They should begin to ask me,
What is it they must do.
Just how it is they go about,
Getting Jesus too.
Then I get to tell them,
This wondrous gift is free.
It only takes a humble heart,
A prayer on bended knee.
Someday when I'm face to face,
With the Lord who set me free.
Will He see His own reflection,
Or will He just see me?

Remind Me God
~ Unknown
Dear God,
When I am lonely and,
Perhaps I feel despair.
Let not my ailing heart forget,
That YOU hear every prayer..
Remind me that no matter what,
I do or fail to do,
There still is hope for as long
As I have FAITH in YOU..
Let not my eyes be blinded by
Some folly I commit.
But help me to regret my wrong,
And to make up for it..
Inspire me to put my fears,
Upon a hidden shelf,
And in the future never to
Be sorry for myself.
Give me the restful sleep I need,
Before another dawn,
And bless me in the morning with
"THE COURAGE TO GO ON.."

Captain Of My Soul
~ Helen Johnson
My sails were torn and battered
and my ship was sinking fast;
I could not stay on course
when I turned to you at last.
I thought that I could handle it
and make it on my own;
But I knew I was in trouble,
out here all alone.
I knew I needed you Lord
to help me make it through;
I knew that I was lost
and I knew not what to do.
Why couldn't I have looked beyond
and saw what lay ahead;
Because I had a will so strong
I was sinking here instead.
Down on my knees to you Lord
I begged your help that day;
I promised I would follow you
and let you lead the way.
You never hesitated Lord
but turned my ship around;
You brought my ship safe into port
and set my feet upon dry ground.
Now you are the captain
of both my heart and soul
You're always at the helm for me
and I know I'll safely reach my goal.
