The Storm
By John Davis
When I was walking home I shielded my body from the thumping rain. It came
down in blankets and didn’t want to stop. After a bad day I didn’t care. I
was mad. When I got home I immediately threw my things down in front of the
house threw my arms in the air and began to yell, Can’t you do any better?!?
Can’t ruin my day anymore so bring on this damn storm! Let’s see what you
got God!
Give it your best shot! I got inside threw my things on the couch
and stomped to my room.
I changed into warmer clothes and dried off. I sat
in front of the TV in my room and cried. About an hour passed and I ceased
to notice a storm. I walked out the front door letting the screen door slam
behind me. What I saw made me do a double-take. God didn’t intensify the
storm but instead calmed it.
The clouds were breaking up and rainbows
flooded the sky.
The water dripped off the leaves gently splashing on the
ground.
The most brilliant sunset I ever saw was before me. I had yelled at
God. I told Him I wanted to see what he’s got. I didn’t understand. It didn’t
make any sense. I expected to open the door and see terror; instead I saw
peace. Why? Then it made sense. I told Him I wanted to see what He’s got
and He showed me. Looking at the sunset it glowed with such gleam I expected
to see God standing right in front of it.

The Trouble Tree
Author Unknown
I hired a plumber to help me restore an old farmhouse and after he had just finished
a rough first day on the job: (a flat tire made him lose an hour of work & his
electric drill quit) his ancient one-ton truck refused to start. While I drove him
home, he sat in stony silence.
On arriving he invited me in to meet his family. As we walked toward the front door,
he paused briefly at a small tree, touching the tips of the branches with both hands.
When opening the door he underwent an amazing transformation. His tanned face was
wreathed in smiles and he hugged his two small children and gave his wife a kiss.
Afterward he walked me to the car. We passed the tree and my curiosity got the better
of me. I asked him about what I had seen him do earlier.
Oh, that's my trouble tree," he replied. "I know I can't help having troubles on the
job, but one thing's for sure, those troubles don't belong in the house with my wife
and the children.
So I just hang them up on the tree every night when I come home and ask God to take
care of them. Then in the morning I pick them up again. "Funny thing is," he smiled",
when I come out in the morning to pick 'em up, there aren't nearly as many as I
remember hanging up the night before."

The Stream
Author Unknown
Just down the road from my house there is a stream that normally flows freely through
the woods. One day, I noticed that the flowing had slowed to a trickle. As I turned
to look down the stream, I discovered the cause of the problem. At a bend in the
water's path, a soggy old rag was caught on the rocks. Behind the rag were several
other bits of trash, each one catching on the previous blockage. What began as a
slight hindrance had become a major one because the very first one had not been removed.
It was at that moment that I started thinking about a similar situation that was going
on in my life. Normally in my relationship with God, there is a peace and an
accompanying freedom. At this time however, there was a hindrance, and the flow of His
life in me was not as free as it normally is. Even so I knew, because of the promises
in His Word, that He had not left me ... God has said, "Never will I leave you; never
will I forsake you." (Hebrews 13:5)
I fished the trash out of the stream and immediately the steady flow returned. Then,
there in the woods, I took care of some business with God: confessing and letting go
of resentments that had been too long unattended, as well as a lack of trusting Him.
I removed the debris inwardly and walked back to the house with my peace restored and
the stream within moving freely again.
Jesus referred to this stream as a well of living water within us that springs up to
eternal life. (John 4:14) If you have never experienced this inner flow of peace and
fellowship with God, it can be yours today by placing your faith and trust in Jesus
Christ as your Lord and Savior. Ask His Spirit to cleanse and fill you. And if like
me, the stream within has become clogged with debris, remember the following: "If we
confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us
from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9)
"Spring up oh well within my soul, spring up oh well and make me whole. Spring up oh
well and give to me that life abundantly."

God, Are You Real?
Author Unknown
The child whispered, "God, speak to me" And a meadowlark sang.
But the child did not hear.
So the child yelled, "God, speak to me!" And the thunder rolled across the sky.
But the child did not listen.
The child looked around and said, "God let me see you" and a star shone brightly.
But the child did not notice.
And the child shouted, "God show me a miracle!" And a life was born.
But the child did not know.
So the child cried out in despair, "Touch me God, and let me know you are here!"
Whereupon God reached down And touched the child.
But the child brushed the butterfly away And walked away unknowingly.

Through children's eyes
Author Unknown
When I look at a patch of dandelions, I see a bunch of weeds that are going to take
over my yard. My kids see flowers for Mom and blowing white fluff, you can wish on.
When I look at an old drunk and he smiles at me, I see a smelly, dirty person who
probably wants money and I look away. My kids see someone smiling at them and they
smile back.
When I hear music I love, I know I can't carry a tune and don't have much rhythm so
I sit self-consciously and listen. My kids feel the beat and move to it. They sing
out the words. If they don't know them, they make up their own.
When I feel wind on my face, I brace myself against it. I feel it messing up my
hair and pulling me back when I walk. My kids close their eyes, spread their arms
and fly with it, until they fall to the ground laughing.
When I pray I say thee and thou and grant me this, give me that. My kids say, "Hi
God!!! Thanks for my toys and my friends. Please keep the bad dreams away tonight.
Sorry, I don't want to go to Heaven yet. I would miss my Mommy and Daddy."
When I see a mud puddle I step around it. I see muddy shoes and clothes and dirty
carpets. My kids sit in it.
They see dams to build, rivers to cross and worms to play with. I wonder if we are
given kids to teach or to learn from? No wonder God loves the little children!!
