The below is compiled from Alice's obituary and writings about her by her daughter Wilma (Wickizer) Rodgers.
Alice taught school before attending Drake University, graduating from the practical course on June 19, 1890. The same week she was ordained as a minister in the Christian Church and was married by Drake Univ. President Aylsworth.
Alice ministered jointly with her husband in successful ministries in Oskaloosa, Capitol Hill in Des Moines, and Bloomfield in Iowa; and Beatrice, NE, Kirksville, MO, and Norman, OK. In Des Moines they lived with her parents on East Twelfth Street. In the various pastorates she was often president of the Christian Women's Board of Mission (CWBM) or superintendent of the Sunday School. She trained women of the congregation to be leaders in these areas. She was also active in the state and national work of the CWBM and addressed the state conventions. In Nov. 1909 she addressed the Centennial convention of the Christian churches in Pittsburg, PA. She sometimes conducted weddings and funerals. She was active in the Women's Christian Temperance Union. She was state president of the CWBM for two years in Iowa, two years in Missouri, and 7 years in Oklahoma.
Alice wrote an article ``The Preacher's Life as Seen by the Preacher's Wife'' which appeared in the May 2, 1907 edition of the Christian Evangelist.
Alice brought her parents to their home in Bloomfield, IA, and cared for them. Her father died a few months later, and her mother went with them to Kirksville, MO. She died there in 1906. Alice died due to a poorly executed operation in the University Hospital in Oklahoma City. Her funeral was held in the church at Norman, OK. The Federated Club of Women, the Missionary Society, the Red Cross and the YWCA all made offerings in her name to the Red Cross as tokens of their esteem.
Alice's involvement with the CWBM is readily apparent from the index
to the CWBM's publication ``Index to Missionary Tidings (1883-1919)'' of the
Disciples of Christ Church. Here are entries for Alice in that index:
