(For privacy purposes, data from my parents generation onward is minimal.
Contact me for possible additional details on information after 1900.)
You may notice that at times there are generations listed with no data on file.
That means that I do have some information on those individuals,
but do not have verification to prove that they belong in my database.

My Holeton Family History

NOTE:  This page has not been updated to agree with the information on the Nicholas C. Holeton page.    km

Research Notes:   I have often been questioned about the spelling of the name HOLETON.  My uncle Vern, who was the original family historian, thought that during the early 1800's, the family may have spelled the name either way.  We have found no explanation as to why our particular branch of  of the family has an "e" added (or sometimes removed).   One of my grandmother's letter stated that she thought one of the "Frank's" may have gone back to the HOLTON spelling.

I do not know of any connection to the HOLTON families that migrated from England.  The theory that our ancestors may have arrived from Sweden is just that -- a theory.  The Swedish background is so sketchy I have chosen NOT to include it here.  (Too many missing generations.)

Since I was not the person to do this original family history research, please consider the information in this database as a starting point for any research you may be doing.  My dad's brothers (Vernon CURTIS) began our family history research more than 35 years ago.  Very little in the way of "documentation" was handed down to me to verify this "tree" data.  There is, however, a death certificate for Silas HOLETON, issued Woodbine, Iowa.  I also have a few of Vern's hand written notes (taken while he was at libraries) and some personal letters from his mother and aunt (my grandmother and great-aunt).

Just recently a HOLETON cousin sent me more information.  Thanks to Susy we now have parents for Silas and Cyms plus names for their nine other children.  Susy has filled in a lot of the missing date information and has provided some background to these ancestors.  Thank you Susy!   Susy's contribution will be in the color purple.  My recent changes or additions are from re-reading letters written to or notes of Uncle Vern's and will be in the color pink.   (Kitty CURTIS Martin)
