MY MOVIE REVIEWS:

Joe Kavanagh is an ex-alcoholic. He's unemployed and devotes all his time to the local football team, probably the worse football team ever... Anyway Joe is happy and he lives well until he meets Sarah Downie, a social assistant. He falls in love with her and he's ready to begin a real relationship but life can't be perfect in this poor district of Glasgow and Joe has to cope with drug and money problems to try to protect Sarah's happiness. My comments: At first, this movie begins like a typical english comedy such as "The Full Monty" or "Brassed Off" and the first 30 minutes of the movie are really funny, especially the scenes with the "West Germany" football team !! But little by little the social reality overwhelms love and happiness and the movie turns out to be really sad and dramatic. Ken Loach has done a very good job with this movie as he managed to draw a very realistic portrait of the hardness of life without being any melodramatic. I thought maybe some scenes, especially at the end, were a little bit long but on the whole, I think this movie is really worse being seen !! My mark: (mark= 3 / 4) |
