The plot:
In 1938 Guido Orefici (Roberto Benigni) arrives in a small Toscan town where he wants to open a bookshop. As he can't open it he decides to work as a waiter at the Grand Hotel where he meets Dora (Nicoletta Braschi). She's a rich school-teacher who's due to marry a civil servant who's close to the fascist party. Guido falls in love with her and decides to conquer her. He finally manages to "kidnap" her during the engagement party. When the war begins they are married and parents of a 5-years-old kid, Giosué. Because of their jewish origins, Guido and the kid are sent to an extermination camp. Till the end of the war Guido will try his best to hide the horror of the camp from Giosué. The solution is to make him believe that the camp is only a big game organised for the prisonners.

My comments:
OK, I will be brief, this movie is a real masterpiece !! Hundreds of movies have been made on the Holocaust but Roberto Benigni has really made something original here. The rhythm of the movie recalls us of classical movies and Benigni manages to find the exact measure between drama and comedy. This movie is really meraviglioso !!!
My mark: (mark= 4 / 4)
