After being arrested and sent to prison, he escapes with his friend Buddy (Ving Rhames). They kidnap US Marshal Karen Sisco (Jennifer Lopez) and flee to Miami. While she has many occasions to arrest the two men, Karen Sisco falls in love with Jack and is unable to do anything against them. Finally the two men get rid of her and head to Detroit where they are onto something big. Karen Sisco follows them but torn between her work and her love for Jack, she hesitates to denounce them. My comments: For the second time this year after Jackie Brown, a novel by Elmore Leonard is turned in a cinematographic masterpiece. Even if Out of Sight is not as perfect as Jackie Brown, the two movies can be compared in many ways. Besides the comparison is made by Steven Soderbergh himself with the reuse of Michael Keaton's small role played as stubborn police-officer Ray Nicolet in Jackie Brown. First of all, the scenario is very good and the alternation between action, romance and comedy gives a pretty cool effect. As in all the Tarantino movies, Steven Soderbergh uses flash-backs ingenuously but never too much. As to the actors, George Clooney who's been criticized a lot for his previous apparitions in movies proves here that his range is not limited to ER, Batman and the Return of the Killer Tomatoes!!! :) One might reproach him is perpetual hangdog look but I have to say that even if it's not necessary it's still very pleasant!! :) Anyway these minor problems in the cast are compensated by excellent supporting roles. This movie is a real must!! My mark: (mark= 3,75 / 4) |
