Tips for inexperience Webmaster:
Don't Open Your Website before it is finish
Don't open you website before it is finished. The reason is that when people go to your website and see that it don't have much stuff, would you think they will come back. So think about it when you open up your website to the public.
Compress
your images:
Nobody
likes to sit around for an hour waiting for a webpage
to load large images in excess of 100k, so be sure to
compress all images possible. Reduce the colors used,
and if possible, reduce the size
Use
Alt tags:
It's
very annoying to wait around for an image to load, and
then find that the image is something you really didn't
want to see. Be sure to use Alt tags, so the visitor will
know exactly what the image is before it's finished loading.
I use Alt tags on nearly all my images. Also, some people
have text only browsers, and cannot view images, so Alt
tags are an effective way of coveying exactly what the
image is.
Links
in frames:
If
your website is using frames, and you have a links section,
make sure that other peoples' pages do not open within
your frames. This can become very annoying, and some people
will not even bother going to your links section if this
happens. Make sure to specify a target for that link,
so visitors' browsers will open the page in a new window,
rather than being trapped inside a frame. If you don't know how to do it, here's how. After the you type in the after the <*a href=the URL", skip a space and put target="window_new">. But don't put the star before the "a". I'm just putting it in so it will appear.
Update
regularly:
Sure
you may have a great layout and informative content, but
if you don't update, the visitors will stop returning.
Even the greatest of web sites need to be updated often. I've seen some. It's good, but the webmaster don't update that much so people don't often come back.
Make
sure backgrounds and text are compatible:
Some
sites may be pleased to announce their great background,
but if the text on top of it is not a good color to go
along with it, your site is not even worth visiting. If
you are using a black background, make sure to use a font
color that can easily be read on a black background, don't
use black or brown text.
Know
your target audience:
If
your intention is to create a kid-friendly website that
is popular among their parents, don't use profanity or
offensive content. If you must have wildly offensive opinions
or interactive sections such as a message board, place
a disclaimer so that parents will not be upset knowing
their little children are viewing such content. If, however,
you intend to market your site to a more adult audience,
don't use childish phrases and gimmicks.
