A new Joaquin-site came out! Angie`s JoaquinPage - there you will find the Prada pics (she is the one who scanned them) and the pics from the OUT mag.

something old I just found:
Stephen Tyler, by the way, approves of Liv's choice of boyfriends in actor Joaquin Phoenix. "He's dead against drugs because his brother passed away from an overdose," says Tyler, a former heroin addict. "That family is so talented and out of their minds and such characters. When I hung out with Liv and Joaquin and his sister, Rain, two months ago in New York, I went over there to pick up Liv and go to dinner and I wound up staying there until three in the morning. "They're just real happy-go-lucky people, and full of themselves and just really talented. It's such a breath of fresh air to see that they're not off in the back of a club somewhere, sucking on a joint, throwing a lot of four-letter words around, like most kids are. Like I did. It was like we were sitting on the floor picking Madonna apart."

The article from the OUT magazine is really long and really cool. Definitely worth reading it!

During the filming of Eight Millimeter, he says, he was surprised to find that director Joel Schumacher had obtained "the real thing" for some of the walks on pornography`s wild side. In one scene, he says, "we go into this hallway with people in leather and theyīre sexing each other up, and there`s this girl tied up in the air and I figure it`s special effects. But no. In between takes, they really are whipping the girl. So Nic goes " - he imitiates Cage`s marbly diction- "'Just grab a girl and kiss her!' " Which Phoenix thought was a great idea for his character until he kissed one of the girls (not the one in the air) and discovereed a whole new world in her mouth. "Whe wasnīt just pierced! She had bows and chain saws and weird fucking things in her tongue. The whole goddamn tongue was like some metallic monster. And she`s just an extra, so she doesn`t know about the movie kiss, so she really jammed it down my throat; and I`m on camera, trying to play it cool, but I`m in absolute shock and horror." He stops himself. "I wouldn`t want her to feel bad. Is it mean?" "Itīs funny," I say. "Are you sure it`s not mean? It was just strange to me. I`ve only had the natural." Pause. Bemused look. "Always the natch." "So what did you do?" "I just went with it, man, and I feel pretty good about my decision," he says ironically, tapping the ash of his American Spirit.

When he was about eight, he auditioned for a He-Man, Masters of the Universe, actions-figure commercial. "I was Skeletor," he recalls, He-Man`s craven archenemy. "Somewhere I knew how fake it was. So I`m sitting there actually analyzing the little script - you know, in the truest way, Why does Skeletor have pain? I wanted him to be happy." He laughs at his earnestness. "But I realized I couldnīt go in there and ask about Skeletor`s pain, so I just hammed the fuck out of it, got the part, and never did another commercial again."

He tells me that in his family he was the "rebel," the one who made baby-sitters cry, the one who "wanted the windows down in the car when everyone else was cold."

Read the Vogue - article!

What he says about The Yards:
My character works for Jimmy Caan and my job is to burn up or destroy equipment belonging to the people who bid against us for contracts. I go from being a small-time hood to what I consider a legitimate business person, and i think I`m "the man." Driving a big Lincoln. I want the jewelry, the nice house, the wife. I think that will make me happy and that I`ll fit in. But when all is said and done, I`m just a pawn. I haven`t seen a finished cut, but it`s one the greatest experiences I`ve had working on a movie.

Asked if there Is an actor he patterns after:
No. But I really love Peter Sellers and his choices: Lolita, Being There, Dr. Strangelove. He was a genius. I work on impulse. I mainly go by the script. I have to be passionate about it. It`s a very difficult process to make films. Complicated. It`s not as pure as i would like it to be. If I ever got in a movie I didn`t want to be in, I don`t know if I could take it.

About doing the right choices for the career:
You can have the best director, the best d.p., the best everything and ... (he finishes with a shrug.) When everything comes together, you have magic. But you never know until it`s done. I`m looking for that magic. I hope I`ll always keep looking for it.

What did the fans think of 8mm? Well, take a look ...

8mm is a wicked piece of reality - John, Hollywood CA

I just saw 8mm today and i felt it was a very good movie. I was quite moved by it, and I never realized how many sick people there is in the world. I must say also that Joaquin was very attractive in this movie (even with the blue hair). I was very distought that he was killed anyways, I enjoyed the movie and would see it again. - Kristen, from piscataway, new jersey

I knew that 8mm hadn't received many raving reviews, and I went into the theatre expecting to enjoy two actors I consider brilliant, but that was about all. Having already seen previews which told the entire story in 2 minutes, I didn't expect many surprises in the plot, and there weren't. I hoped the shock factor would leave me moved if nothing else, but the gruesomeness left me more unaffected than I expected. I admit that I haven't heard that from anyone else. Actually, It was the characters' motives that really kept me rapt. I was intrigued by the shift of behavior seen in Nicolas Cage's character, Tom Welles. In fact, although the movie is sold to audiences under the action genre, character motives seemed to be the central theme. I wish other aspects of the movie were also as strong, but 8mm didn't quite fill out its potential. I've seen Nicolas Cage play other roles more convincingly, but was quite impressed with Joaquin Phoenix's ability to, once again, bring a unique and thought-provoking character to life. I would definitely recommend it to fans, who I assume are the only people visiting this web site anyway. - Alyssa

Your film was pretty good. You were great in it! It was a good film because the storyline wasn't the same old storyline that is found in movies today. Me and my fiancee really liked it! - Linda

Good! I saw it two times in cinema! Actually I like Joaquin even more than Cage! - Alex.

I thought 8mm was an awesome movie, and I loved Joaquin Phoenix. I think this was Nick Cage's best movie so far and I loved Joaquin Phoenix. I loved Joaquin Phoenix.

I thought it sucked. It was depressing, dark, and I left the theater very disturbed by it. Joaquin looked hot and his acting was good, but the subject matter was so wacked. And I was disappointed to see him die again ( after Return to Paradise) He needs a role where he's a lover- not somebody caught in the middle of weird shit!

I enjoyed 8mm thoroughly. My friends were a little weirded out by the subject matter in that there are people out there who actually get off by such actions, but overall it was an excellent movie. The dark nature of the movie, the soundtrack, and most of all the mystery of the true identity of Machine kept me into the movie. Joaquin and Cage both did an excellent job. It was clearly apparent that they both took their characters very seriously and really wanted the movie to work. Though at times I did feel Cage was over acting a little, Joaquin's sarcasm and dark humor towards the "porn world" was the added touch needed to lighten this movie up just enough. I have yet to see a movie that Cage was bad in and Joaquin because of his apparent dedication to realism is always a great support for any movie. I just wish Joaquin could get away from the supporting roles he's falling into and become more of the "STAR". From what I've read it seems he takes his acting very seriously and strives for perfection, I don't know I guess I am tired of watching Joaquin die. Don't get me wrong he does it well, I'd just like to see him make it to the end of more of his movies. So, in remembrance of Siskel I give this movie a thumbs up! - Lisa, VA.

i just saw 8mm tonight!!! it is sooo good. joaquin was so addorable. With his leather pants and blue hair and his cute tummy!!! he palys the part of porn shop clerk Max California very well!!! from the beginning of the movie i was waiting for him. . . he is so addorable!!! Also he smokes a lot. . . i didn't think he smoked but i guess i was wrong.

I thought that 8mm was the best movie. i just saw it last night. Joaquin performs really well in this movie. -Jess

Thanks to everybody!

8mm is the No.1 at the Box Office!!!

...... With Cage committed to the project, Schumacher next had to find another "unusual" actor for the key role of Max. He got Phoenix. "And Joaquin was the perfect person to put next to Nic," he says. "I think they're very similar in their intensity, although they're completely different as people. (Phoenix) also throws himself into a role the same way Nic does. They're completely committed, true character actors."
