Our 14 yr old granddaughter Lacey was diagnosed with SLE only six month's ago. She was at first afraid she was going to die. Placed in ICU for a week with extremely high blood pressure. Had emergency CAT scan. Told she had suffered a severe seizure. ad headache's, bleeding from kidney's. Kidney biopsy confirmed kidney damage. Also she has heart damage. Thickening of L. Ventrical. On steroid's which have caused her face & body to swell extremely large. She is on several medication's. Doctor sta ted her on chemo in Aug. She is showing remarkable result's. Steroid's have been cut from 80mg's a day to 40 mg's. She is scheduled for another chemo IV treatment in Nov. After that they will reaccess her treatment. May go in every two to three month' for chemo by IV. Was going to be put on chemo in pill form for two year's. She has such a good attitude. Is very tired at time's & on iron. Going to school but has missed alot this year so far. Is an honor student. We pray for each & every one of y u. We as grandparent's have experienced such heartache but as long as Lacey has a smile on h er face we can endure everything she'll experience. God Bless you all. Would love to hear from other grandparent's of lupus sufferer's or parent's.

My wife suffered a severe stroke in November of 99'. AFter numerous tests for Lupus, she was finally diagnosed with the Lupus Anticoagulant Syndrome, only. She is recovering and is on disability. My wife was 38 years old, with no signs or previous illness to indicate this disease. She had three normal pregnancies all delivered by Cecerian Section, with no problems. You seem to be more informed on these diseases than most, I plan to return to your sight later from my home computer and give you my email address, to get any information that may help us. Thank you so much. This is a wonderful site. I'm so glad I decided to look at the Lupus Message Board this am. Someone on the board had put up a link to your site. I was diagnosed with Lupus in '89 but was not convinced I really had it until just recently I have lost some kidney function and I will see a nephrologist in a few days. I did notice that both my primary care doctor and my rheumatolist are putting SLE on my referral papers etc.. Your site is filled with information and I hope you are feeling well and that you keep you wonderful, cheerful outlook on life. Robin

Your story is so much like my sister. Except it didn't take the doctors too long to diagnose her with Lupos. She also has pleurisy, bladder infections and so on and so on. I can relate to the story about the libary visit except it was me and my mom. W found the exact same info and left there crying because we thought she was dying that day. That was 7+ years ago. She was about 16 or 17 when she found out what was wrong. She has a healthy 3 year old and is doing good. She has her days but overall s e's doing ok. Good luck and may God be with you.

Kathleen has had lupus for 1 1/2 years. No doctor can really seem to help. After visiting your site, we realized that her "specialist" couldn't even seem to put it together whenever she had symptoms of a flare up. She has been through so much pain, so any emergency room & hospital visits....we are so tired. I cannot believe how "uneducated" "doctors" are about lupus. This makes me very angry. Your website has helped us so much, while reading the info you provided, I became very overwhelmed with sadne s and anger that Kathleen's doctors CLEARLY haven't a clue.....but now we are happy, because at least we know we need to get a new specialist. You have no idea how much you have helped us. Thank God someone (you) cared enough to provide people with lupu and their caretakers the info we need. Thank you so much, we are so appreciative.
