Expys Rule!!!!!!!

Welcome to my biggest weakness, power.  As Tim Allen is famous for R R R R R R R.  I like my truck to be different and the one that gains the audience's eye.  Here is a quick break down of what I am starting with:

'97 Ford Expedition XLT
-Pacific Green
-255/70-R16 Tires
-Standard radio
-Captain's chairs in front, 40/60 seat in the middle.
-3rd row seat
-Towing package
-5.4L engine(no problems to this point, but, let's see.  There's many problems popping up)

What has been altered already:
-Pioneer FHM-75 Double Din CD/Cass/Radio
-Stereo system(Cliff Design CD-61 speakers up front, Polk EX 602 in rear doors, Soundstream MC140X amp, Clarion APA 2150 amp, 2 Boston Accustic RS-10s, Soundstream SX2 crossover)
-Smittybuilt Nerf bars
-K&N air filter
-color matched mud guards
-blackout lenses
-taillight lense covers
-vibrant green pinstripe, 1/8":1/16" stripes
-new door panels with cloth top (much more comfortable than the stock stuff). If you would like to see what it looks like or how to do it, click here.
-4" Rancho suspension lift
-315/75R16 Wild Country RVT tires (aka 35"x12.5"x16")
-Ultra Type 150 Claw polished aluminum 16x8" rims with off-roading valve stems.
-dual exhaust consisting of 2.5" pipes with a Flowmaster 70 series dual in/dual out muffler(personally, the 70 series is a little too quite(just as loud as stock), a better growl than stock, not a lot of power gain. Not quite what I was after, I wanted a slightly louder and deeper growl)
-Rancho steering stabilizer
-Hella Black Magic Off-road lights
-Modified headlight switch-allows use of the fog lights independant of the headlights. If you want to see how to do it, click here.
-Dual electric 14" fans with separate temperature controls (removed the factory mechanical fan).
-color matched (to outside of truck) door handles and button plates (for electric windows and doors)

What is still to be added:
-pre-runner guard with custom bumpers front and rear
-internal roll cage
-5 point harnesses for driver and passenger
-4 valve/cycliner heads bored .030" over(should push the power to about 300hp)('99 Lincoln Navigator)
-Supercharger(push power to ~550 hp)
-F-150 crosshatch grille or possibly the E&G aluminum billet grille
-Redone paint job consisting of no chrome, only Pacific green and flat black.  Dodge has always had the better paint jobs.(Half way there, just need to do up the bumpers and the outline of the headlights)
-Cowl induction hood with a ram-air intake.
-4.56 gears front/rear

If you are needing dimensioning data for the Expedition, you can find it here by these two files. These files are in Adobe Acrobat format. File 1 File 2.

If you are interested in what it takes to put a lift on an Expedition, just click here and see what my Labor Day weekend was like when I installed a Rancho 4" lift myself.

The Ford Truck World Group (Washington Chapter) took over Turbo Technologies one day and for grins I put Nukie on the dyno. Come see what the dyno says I am running.

I recently moved to Hawaii and met up with some of the guys from the Ford Truck Group-Hawaii Chapter for some 4x4 playing. Needless to say, it was lots of fun having the mountains on one side and the beach on the other. As you can see, Nukie, had a blast running the trails. Come see the pics of us playing out at Kelani park.

I also have some pictures of me playing out in Tahuya State Forest the way I like to, rough and tough.  I guess I am putting the Ford slogan to the test, Built Ford Tough.  My reply back is "How Tough is Ford?"  So far so good, I have only tossed walls of water about 20 feet above the truck, but, I haven't done what I want to: Earn my wings!!!!!  I have put the truck slightly in the air taking some rather rough holes, but nothing like I want.  I have also put it into some deep water holes, deep enough to get water coming up and over the hood for me to see. I guess I am waiting for the warranty to wear off before I do anything major.  I don't want any question as to who is responsible for any repairs until after the warranty is done. The Xpedition.net group just completed the SAXE (Second Annual Xpedition Expedition). You can view the pictures here.

This event was held in Virgina at the George Washinton National Forest. There's an event coming up for us West Coast guys on June 10th, 2000. Keep a look out. If you have any questions about the June 10th run, write me.

If you think I have a nice radio system, you can learn more about putting one in yourself and just what is all involved. It doesn't cover the specifics for any one particular type of vehicle, but, does give a good overview and just what should be taken into account to get the best possible sound. I know people are going to argue me on what I am saying. Fine. But, who's stereo system are they designing?? Their dream system, or your dream system. Notice I don't claim which manufacturer is good, better, best. I let you decide that.

I am watching the mags and the listings for what "easy to do" things there are right now for improving the horsepower.  But, there isn't much out there that I have found.  There are a few adventuresome people out there, but, they aren't sharing much.  From what I have gathered, by going to dual exhaust and adding a superchip, it boosts the power by about 65 hp. I have plans right now to put on true dual exhaust(2 1/2")(installed) and a superchip(which one, not sure quite yet, but, I am looking for one that gets programmed to your truck, not just a cookie cutter chip).

I bought this truck with one intention, using it as a truck, not as some oversized yuppy station wagon.  Trucks are trucks, no matter how many people they can haul and what they look like. Below are some people and their Expy's at play and also above is my trip through Tahuya National Forest.

Here is a list of sites that you will find informative about the Expedition. Some of these also cover the F-150 on up, but, most of that information applies. So, take the information for what it is worth. Ford-trucks.com 1997->present daily list of questions via Intellisys. This list also has other areas covering Ford trucks from their beginnings to the present and into the future. Intellisys also has a site just dedicated to the Expedition, come check out the Xpedition.net site. This Xpedition.net group is also sponsoring an annual event of Expedition 4x4ing(currently on their second trip, Second annual Xpedition Expedition(SAXE, aka XE-2). Looks like they were all having fun. Come check out http://www.xpeditionexpedition.org/. The TAXE (Third Annual Xpedition Expedition) is coming up June 1-3, 2001. There's 30 Expeditions that are going nose to tail through the woods (even 2 from the Michigan Truck plant which is the one that builds all of the rigs). The link for the Xpedition Expedition will hvae all sorts of information/pictures for you to look at. Theres probably over 300 pictures from the SAXE. Even some videos. Enjoy.

If you want a discussion group just dealing with the Expedition, you can join the group at Xpedition.net an either get the messages one by one or get a daily digest of all of the messages for the day. You can join the list by going to mailing list of Xpedition.net .

Here is a member of the Xpedition.net group that has been kind enough to post some of the TSBs for the X. Thanks C E White for doing this.

Thanks Bill and Deb Haegele and Betsy and Oliver (the Four Wheeling Puppies) for posting pictures of Expys at play. Finally. But, I'm still looking.

Here is NoMo's Expy. He has something very similiar to what I am looking to do. I am just looking to make my bumpers colormatched, vice dark gray. Here is his other site too. And yet a third.

Here is one person that has taken his Expy and done a "little" modification of it. Needless to say, it isn't stock.

Here is another person kind enough to post the TSBs for the Expy on his site. Come see Mike Wolfe's site.

Here is a site by Ford Motor Company that shows what can be done to an Expedition. Come see the Himalaya Expedition.

Here is another X that has been modified. Thanks KJ Classics for posting pics of your X.

Here is someone that I met on the internet that has lifted his truck and modified it a lot like what I have. See what Caleb Johnson has done to his truck

Here is a company, East Coast Customs that has a few of the things that I want to add to my truck. Come see what I am dreaming about.

The closest picture to date that I can find for what I want my truck to look like. Just change the color to dark green and add the brush guard on the front, Bingo. Complements of IPD

Come see what Arnie has done to his X. The right picture of the Westin prototype bar is very similiar to the brush guard that I plan on welding together.

Here's another one of the members X's. Pretty neat. He gave the truck a "Lightning" makeover. Pretty cool.

If you are interested in 4x4ing in the PNW, then go and check out High Riders NW for what the local trails are like.

Here is a site from a custom limousine manufacturer, Craftsmen Limousine. They don't show any pictures of Expeditions, but, they do show its big brother, Lincoln Navigator, with a 220" addition. OH WOW!!!!!!!

For those of you that just need that little bit of "extra" protection, here's an Expedition for you. The ultimate for the suburan jungle. Check out this vehicle produced by Ogara. This is one bad Expy. Oh, you have a 9mm, and????

I found a site that has an X used for off-road racing. I would love to get that suspension, but, I'm sure that trucks sees a lot of abuse. But, the truck looks like mine with the 315/75/16 tires. Good job Chuck. Come see Elms Racing.

I have found my next rig (if I don't get a Hummer first). It is made by a group in Idaho Jurassic Truck Corporation . This sounds like a pretty neat truck. Sure is cheaper than a Hummer. Who knows. So many toys, so little money.

For those of you wanting some ammunition against SUVs, here you go. I like it for the Kenworth SUVs, but, you can find both sides of the SUV debate here. Come check out Poseur's site. I just like it for the laughs and what some people have done to a perfectly good truck. I will let you decide what is right/wrong.

Having trouble with you vehicle, try the National Highway Traffic Safety Association for possible answers to all of your troubles. You can also check out the Wheeled Coach site about possible problems too.
