Here's a friendly request regarding pet ownership: Before you consider purchasing a pet at your local pet store, please check the pets available at your local Animal Shelter!!! Several (or most) pet stores obtain their puppies from "puppy mills," and these puppies, no matter how cute, tend to have very serious health problems...like my buff Lucky, mentioned on other pages.

Also, check the Internet - there are literally thousands of rescue organizations for purebred dogs (like the Cocker Spaniel Adoption Center listed below). There are many dogs available and they would LOVE to go to a loving home. Most of them, the non-puppy versions, are already housebroken! (That's a great selling point, for anyone who has tried to housebreak a new puppy!!)

When you do get your new "fur-kid", whether purebred or Heinz 57, please make sure you have him/her neutered or spayed to keep down the puppy population. (My local animal shelter, during the month of June alone, put 119 puppies and dogs to sleep, while only placing 10 in adoptive homes.) How truly sad.

Also make sure you get all the required vaccinations and medications for heartworm and flea prevention! A healthy dog is a happy dog.
