Lambert Kay, Tomlyn,
Biogroom, Oster, Ring 5, House of AnJu, Kenic, and F1R2 all make excellent
texturizing and colorizing shampoos. Which one you use will depend
on your cat's coat. Each cat is different!
Let's
look at scissors and combs!
Round back Greyhound
combs are the best. 7 inch teeth for the cat's body, and 4
inch for the cat's face.
Curved face scissors
are used to trim the eyelids and ear tips but you must be SHOWN how to
do this. It is very dangerous to do without assistance from an experienced
show groomer. Never trim the ear tuffs, only the hair on the very
tips of the ears.
Show
cats may benefit from the use of Agree cream rinse (a very small amount)
in between show baths to keep the coat from matting.

Oster makes an excellent
table top dryer with enough power to dry kitty quickly. "Superduck"
is a less expensive alternative to the Oster hairdryer. Oster also makes
matt combs and rakes to cut through matted hair. Never use scissors
to cut out a matt, you could easily cut the skin that it's attached to!
Gently pull the matt apart with your fingers and if necessary, use a matt
comb and rake it out.
Eye Care Supplies
Eye care should be
done on a daily basis by simply wiping the area around the eye with saline
solution placed on a cotton beauty pad such as the ones shown in the photo
above. A generic brand of saline solution is very inexpensive and
works great. Daily care helps prevent eye staining which can be a
problem when showing bicolors or whites. Boric acid solution
can be placed on a cotton pad and the stained area can be gently wiped.
There are solutions made especially to remove eye stains as pictured above,
ERASE and CRYSTAL EYE, and there are many others. Again, see what
works best for your cat. Always be careful not to get any product
in your cats eyes that isn't specifically designed for that use.
While at the show hall a small amount of boric acid powder, corn starch,
or Eye and Wound powder can be used by dabbing the powder gently into the
stained area and then using the fine teeth on a face comb to gently comb
it out. Sometimes it's necessary to use eye drops such as Clear Eyes,
Baush & Laumb, or saline solution directly in the eye if they have
become irritated from grooming.
