Support army (1500 points) - Supporting Empire HtH army (1/0/0) Theory - An army designed purely to support another one. In this case a HtH Empire army (1500 pts) with 2 level 2 mages. I took all shooting, and 2 more mages plus the Staff of Sorcery so that we would have a +2 to dispel (with the HE bonus). The enemy was a big 3000 point Vampire Count army. It had 40 zombies, two units of skeletons, a big unit of Grave Guard, 5 spirit hosts, 2 banshees some bats and a black coach, our forces felt quite feeble in comparison... Practice - We got first turn so massive shooting rounds were the theme of the day. In the whole game magic was pathetic, and it mainly came down to slow lumbering undead being shot to pieces, our light cav enveloping and march-blocking him, with a final glorious Empire charge to finish. Not much else to say really :-) Luck factor: Hideous magic from the VC - 3 miscasts effectively crippling his magic phases for two turns, and by then we had managed to kill his two necromancers off. Nothing else was remarkable I think.Analysis: Surprisingly good result - I only lost one reaver and my Commander. The Empire casualties were rather light too, but it this was mainly from the VC taking so long to get to us, my shooting was surprisingly effective, and since most of the undead got aimed at the the HtH orientated Empire forces this played into our hands very well. More faster troops attacking me could have been far more worrying. Definite respect for Greatswords and detachments! I was also impressed at how well my Seaguard stood up to the Spirit Hosts, they only managed to kill the commander (the only magic weapon in my whole army) and my rank bonus dealt to him quite happily. Like I said though a second unit could have really crippled me. Huzzah for the good guys! Support Army: Elf Commander +Sword of Battle, Enchanted Shield, Hv armour, Amulet of Fire, Longbow |
