Age Line, a magical line that does not let someone below a certain age to pass, Bk4- 256, trying to pass when you are too young will cause you to get thrown out and cause a beard to grow long and gray instantly, Bk4-

Anti-Disapparation Jinx, used by Dumbledor on Death Eaters, Bk5- 817

Aparecium, spell to make invisible ink appear, didn’t work on Riddle’s diary, Bk2- 233

Apparate, just vanish and reappear somewhere else, underage wizards are not allowed to apparate because it is dangerous, Bk2- 69, you need to pass a test and get licensed to apparate, Bk4- 66

Avada Kedavra, the Killing Curse, when cast it causes a blinding green light and a rushing sound, causes instant death without leaving a mark, there is no countercurse, Harry is the only one known to have survived this curse, this was the curse that killed Harry’s parents and many other enemies of Voldemort, Bk4- 215-216, an Unforgivable Curse, Bk4- 217

Avis, causes a wand to make a loud noise and sends small, twittering birds out of the end, Bk4- 309

Banishing Charm, opposite of Summoning Charm, sends objects to a specific spot, Bk4- 479

Bat-Bogey Hex, curse that Ginny Weasley is good at, Bk5- 100, causes the face to be covered with great floppy things, Bk5- 760

Cheering Charms, leaves one with a feeling of great contentment, Bk3- 294

Colloportus, seals a door, Bk5- 788,796

Conjunctivitis Curse, a curse that causes near blindness, effective against dragons because their eyes are their weakest spot, Bk4- 406

Crucio, the Cruciatus Curse, causes extreme pain, effective only while the casting wand is pointed at the target, Bk4- 214-215, an Unforgivable Curse, Bk4- 217

Curse of the Bogies, mentioned by Quirrell, Bk1- 157

Densaugeo, a curse that causes teeth to grow very long, Bk4- 299

Deletrius, erases a spell like Prior Incantato, Bk4- 136

Diffindo, caused Cedric’s bag to split open, Bk4- 340

Disillusionment Charm, makes a person look like the backround, very hard to see, a human chameleon, Bk5- 54,60

Engorgio, causes the target to grow larger, Bk4- 214

Ennervate, reverses the Stupify spell, awakens someone who’s been stunned, Bk4- 133

Evanesco, a vanising spell, Bk5- 80

Expecto Petronum, the Petronis Charm, highly advanced and well beyond O.W.L.s, conjures a Petronus which is an Anti-Dementor, each is unique to the wizard, you must concentrate on a very happy memory, Bk3- 237, 238

Expelliarmus, a Disarming Charm, knocks any thing they are holding out of their hands and can knock the opponent backwards, Bk2- 190

Ferula, conjures bandages and a splint. Bk3- 376

Finite Incantatem, stops the effects of other spells already cast, Bk2- 192

Fidelius Charm, immensely complex spell involving the magical concealment of a secret in a person, the Secret-Keeper. As long as the person doesn’t reveal the secret the people hiding can not be found, Bk3- 205

Flagrate, causes a fiery X to appear on an object, Bk5- 772

Flame Freezing Charm, causes a fire to have no effect on you, Bk3- 2

Freezing Charm, spell Hermione used on Cornish Pixies to great effect to immobilize them, Bk2- 103

Furnunculus, a curse that causes boils to break out, Bk4- 298

Hair-Thickening Charm, can cause eyebrows to grow, Bk5- 400

Impedimenta, Impediment Curse, will slow down anything, Bk4- 574, Bk5- 413,454

Imperio, the Imperius Curse, causes the target to be in total control of the caster, it can be fought by real strength of character, was used in Voldemort’s day to control other wizards, Bk4- 212-213, an Unforgivable Curse, Bk4- 217

Imperturbable Charm, used to stop anything from passing a door, Bk5- 69

Impervius, a spell Hermione used to make Harry’s glasses repel water, Bk3- 177

Inanimatus Conjurus, an assignment from McGonagall, Bk5- 289,295

Incarcerous, causes ropes to wrap around the target, Bk4- ?, Bk5- 755

Legilimens, Legilimency, the ability to extract feelings & memories, Bk5- 530, only those skilled at Occlumency can resist Legilimency, Bk5- 531,534

Locomotor Mortis, leg-locker curse, Bk1- 217, 222

Locomotor Trunk, used to make a trunk float through the air, Bk5- 53

Lumos, the wand gives off light to see by, BK1-

Obliteration Charm, erases things like footprints in the snow, Bk5- 440, spell to open locks

Occlumency, magical defence of the mind against penetration, Bk5- 519, protection against Legilimency, Bk5- 530

Orchideous, causes a bunch of flowers to burst from the tip of the wand, Bk4- 308

Perminant Sticking Charm, makes an item impossible to be removed from where it was put, Bk5- 79,110

Petrificus Totalus, a Body-Bind spell that makes the whole body go rigid, Bk1- 273, Bk5- 792

Peskipiksi Pesternimi, spell Lockart tried on Cornish Pixies that had no effect, Bk2- 101

Point Me, a Four Point Spell that causes the wand to point north, Bk4- 608

Relashio, normally shoots sparks out of the wand, underwater shoots a jet of boiling water, Bk4- 496

Reparo, charm to fix something like a broken window, Bk4- 169

Riddikulus, used on a boggart to change it into something amusing, laughter finishes off a boggart, Bk3- 134

Riducio, opposite of Engorgio, causes the target to shrink, Bk4- 215

Serpensortia, shoots a long black snake out of the end of your wand, Bk2- 194

Silencio, Silencing Charm, Bk5- 375

Shield Charm, delects minor jinxes so they rebound on the attacker, Bk5- 553, see Protego

Sonorus, magically amplifies your voice, Bk4- 102

Splinched, fail to apparate properly leaving part of yourself behind, Bk4- 67

Stinging Hex, causes a small welt or scorch mark, Bk5- 534

Taratallegra, causes a person’s legs to jerk around out of control, Bk2- 192, Bk5- 802

Trip Jinx, used by Malfoy to trip Potter, Bk5- 609

Unforgivable Curses, Avada Kedavra, Crucio, and Imperio, using one on another human being is punishable by life imprisonment in Azkaban, Bk4- 217

Waddiwasi, used by Lupin to shoot chewing gum out of the keyhole where Peeves just put it, and into Peeves’s left nostril, Bk3- 131

Wingardium leviosa, a levitating spell, Bk1- 171, 176
