.... The continuing saga that has become known as Family News is here again. This is somewhat of a mini-series covering past/present/recent events in and around the house. This is one page of several others that "getting better as we go" keeps you up to speed of events around here. The idea that this may appear as a monthly thing is false. It is written when the weather keeps me indoors or when the notion strikes me. Remember this is not only for those far away but for those of us who have a moments to spend during the day when reading is much better. Take a moment to write and let us know events unfolding at your end.
For all you folks at home, want to know when a new page to the saga is added? Goto the feedback page and let the machine know by clicking on the little box/button and push submit. Don't think for a minute you will get an immediate reply, I write this as the notion peaks and it's by no means monthly. Make your mark here.

Karin's world 20020301 - The new iMac is here, the new iMac is here. The price of the really new iMac's are not in our stars but a traditional CRT iMac was.
A Snow iMac (or is that an iMac Snow?) @ 600Mhz avec built-in CD-RW and a suite of applications for any student's needs.

Sherri's world 20020310 - Car's are not a girl's best friend if they don't start and run. That having been said you may detect we had a bit of trouble with a particular aged battery in a particular car. Said battery has been banished and a new installed, the world is a much better place. No more calls to come and boost the car in the lovely weather we have been having. (The Bay)

Carolyn's world 20020301 - Spring fever has struck. The need to get out has been dampened by the chilly weather and yet the desire is there. Perhaps this year we can get into gardening with a renewed vigor with some outdoor projects that require a different view. Of course this all goes with out saying too much about the speed at which this may happen. The easy pace and steady concentration required to keep the pacemaker below red line will ensure a few extra days at least, and really what's the rush. Gardening is all about the relaxing and steady hand required to keep our green friends happy. It's like fishing for me, I don't really want a fish (they are tasty though) but the idea of spending the day with nothing to do but relax at the water's edge .... Looking toward spring & summer. Sadly one deck is very badly needing replacement and along with a redesign. What exactly can or should be done is the real dilemma. Keep it or loose it? It does have a certain charm however it must go in it's present state and condition.
There are fewer priorities than fine health. (SAIT)

Don's world 20020301 - The brain storming continues... With new OS's in the house I can relax after boning up on UNIX commands to become superuser ala root. Mac OS X with all of it's fine attention to detail is not safe from me lately.
20020310 - It seems Geocities / Yahoo et al has decided to remove ftp access as a free thing for the masses. This might mean moving the site to a safer place from all the distractions of on-line editing. I don't like it and I suspect never will. I imagine it is a ploy to keep the server traffic to a minimum and reduce the amount of support necessary. All things are dollar propelled in this type of thing, right. 20020311 - Technology Gloat of the Month: NEC PFII vintage fax machine. There is a reason to keep one of these around. Tell me, who is going to buy up all of that goofy paper at the store, you know the stuff that curls up and fades after you leave it in the sun, why me of course. The service I provide to the retailers around here has no boundaries.

The House Breaking News: This just in, photo's of the kitchen off-site however safe on Apple's server. 20020308 - The wintery photo is for the benefit of those who are inside at the moment. Looking at this months from now when the heat is unbearable will bring to mind that there is better or worse depending on how you feel at the time. On the day this was taken it was -28¡ C during the evening past and not much warmer at the time. Located within Fish Creek Park (the largest provincial park within municipal boundaries) at the part just north of Midnapore, this is a view of the frozen creek looking westward. Your eyes are correct in revealing the screen around the tree in the foreground to protect it from vermin. How about another winter photo?
OK, this one is almost in the same spot however looking toward the sun (for those who may temporarily forget this would be looking south, or for those not knowing I am in the northern hemisphere). The idea here was to capture the ice crystals in the air with a bit of artsy effect at the same time. I was half way back to the nice warm car and only 15 minutes out at this time. The urgency of the journey back to warmth was not as urgent as I thought, the battery in most cameras seem to fade quickly in the cold and the G1's lithium battery performed very well. It was down a bit but in the heat of the car it quickly returned so I could make sure I captured at least a few satisfactory shots. During my session it was very brightly lit from the intense sun and reflected light of the snow making it difficult to examine fine detail in the LCD display, all while shaking from the cold. In all from spending as much time as I did in the cold, the hand-held photography was surprisingly sturdy. Both photo's are available here in the original size:
