Information on usage patterns is collected in ways that do not involve users' personal information.
Use is made of anonymous, numeric "cookies" in evaluating usage patterns.
Geocities also uses a cookie method to determine usage patterns and I'm sure used to best optimize their equipment.
Cookies are used to track general usage patterns and to make the author's HTML skill level current to the most popular browser. For instance, after you have visited the site your domain (or country of origin), computer type, browser client, and time with date are "remembered" in a cookie so the next time you visit hopefully the author has clued in and is prepared. This is done from the site counter upon initial visit to the site and only the most recent 100 visitors are noted. After this only hourly, daily and monthly statistics are kept. As a matter of interest the most popular day to visit D2M is Tuesday.
There are many misconceptions about cookies. Here are some facts:
The cookie is assigned by the Web site. It can only contain information known to that site.
When a Web site reads a cookie, it can only read the information that the Web site itself had assigned to the cookie earlier.
Only the site assigning a cookie can read it later. Since cookies, which reside on your computer are a temporary tool to measure simple stats are for the most part harmless, I find them to be pesky myself (they are seldom chocolate). If I can they are kept to a very minimum.
The site named D2M (http://geocities.datacellar.net/ResearchTriangle/7911), may disclose user information in special cases when we have reason to believe that disclosing this information is necessary to identify, contact or bring legal action against someone who may be causing injury to or interference with (either intentionally or unintentionally) D2M's or Geocities rights or property, other users, or anyone else that could be harmed by such activities. D2M may disclose user information when we believe in good faith that the law requires it.
The author is Canadian residing in Canada and the site is based and operates in the USA, this may be subject to the laws of both countries and the province and state of each.
The content and writing style is exclusively of the author's. The html structure with the exception of a few cgi scripts are also of the author's own hand. No fancy store bought software for this guy as of this writing nor does he copy the content or style of any other site. He may admire the style and technique of others but write using his own style and method. The same goes for you, if you emulate this or duplicate the style please let me know how it works for you.
The policy as determined by each copyright holder / writer is established and I'm sure there are several represented. Permissions have been obtained where necessary and most often the general rule of good taste applies. Some logo's, images and such if presented are only done out of respect for the original owners and nothing less.
Where necessary as the situation dictates a disclaimer is supplied on the page or immediately following the page globally on the site.
At any and all times there is never an intention to misrepresent any site, person, individual, company, organization or product. If any of the above are mentioned it is at the author's best interest to demonstrate an opinion. Eg; Mac's rule!
Please use the address supplied to voice your opinion.
Privacy is fundamental. If you have something to say and wish a reply, do so with a return address.
As above, at any and all times there is never an intention to misrepresent any site, person, individual, company, organization or product. When writing or after completion of a form on this site you can rest assured the information and content will be regarded with the utmost respect and due privacy. I will always ask for your permission to publish any portion of the information supplied and you have the first opportunity to view the content for editing and removal as required.
Some addresses and links to other sites have been included without prior permission but are widely available with a vast majority of common search engines.
This site and the contents are for your entertainment only. The links to other sites are only for informational purposes only, they do not necessarily convey the opinion of the author. Links supplied may change and policy of each site to which they point may change, this is beyond my immediate control and every effort is made to remain current. You have my thanks in advance if you spot such changes and bring them to my attention.
The style and writing as published may or may not change as required. If this does not appear suitable on your equipment, too bad. It was written with a minimum/low level of html for general use on a wide variety of machines and browsers/clients. If you are kept awake at nights because of something here please write and I will do my best to understand. Please use the supplied mail address as my mail server has changed over the years and I suspect it will again, the mail is always forwarded to my current server. I do not go for fancy (budget reasons) when it comes to provider so if no reply has been received within one week, try again.
If I may, it is my humble opinion the internet and access to it should be free to one and all. Information should not come with a price. Ben Franklin, Tom Edison and others had the right ideas of public libraries, public light and such that the world wide web has also a need of their direction and divine guidance. As with most things without financial backing even this site would not be possible, but the access to it should be free, agreed.
Once in a while I get carried away with an idea and common sense leaves me entirely. With complete abandon I sometimes do things such as this.
Customary disclaimers apply, that would be this page included.
