.... The continuing saga that has become known as Family News is here again. This is somewhat of a mini-series covering past/present/recent events in and around the house. This is one page of several others that "getting better as we go" keeps you up to speed of events around here. The idea that this may appear as a monthly thing is false. It is written when the weather keeps me indoors or when the notion strikes me. Remember this is not only for those far away but for those of us who have a moments to spend during the day when reading is much better. Take a moment to write and let us know events unfolding at your end.

Before It's like reading old newspapers, "It's News to Me" After

Karin's world
20010120 - Another semester will be coming to a close soon. Grades are good and nothing holding her back now.

20010125 - Whaaassuup with this Napster thing? Drink coasters are being created here by the dozens. Alarming trend (she calls it a hobby).

(Mount Royal)

Sherri's world
20010125 - Thank's again to Greg's Import Auto glass, two thumbs Very Enthusiastically Up for these guys! Great job and fast too.

20010125 - Something tells me the underwear store might be more bother than it is worth. Hours of work are not the best and the time spent does not amount to much, if anything.

Carolyn's world
20010125 - The old adage, "take care" are very profound words indeed. These two words have several meanings that apply to each day without notice how ever you prepare.
Current drug therapy is being adjusted to try and suit the best of all worlds. Not! Time is the word of the day, time to adjust once again to the introduction of yet another therapy. The rub is this, the pacemaker will not over clock past 160bpm due to prior settings from experience and general circumstantial anatomy. The experience has now been altered slightly and as she gets stronger she feels the PS (Pacemaker Syndrome) pickle more often. Common reasoning would indicate this, as she becomes more active and the healing matures the speed limit is going to be reached. Speed limits in her case must be held in check due to the underlying dilemma, but when necessary they must be exceeded.

Once in a while I reflect on events of past and am reminded of the term, typical. Typical is not that, when it comes to health, as a first aider we are better when we know this fact. Mrs. is clocked at a higher speed than "typical", it's just her. Always has been and likely will always be. To apply typical reasoning to the situation is not possible, there has been meddling and adjustments made.

Doc's are not without answers but not all these answers are in her best interest at the present time. The PS gets in the way of normal (what ever normal is) everyday functionality by the limiting effect and understandable uncertainty that resides within each session. These PS sessions are almost daily with recovery times of almost the remainder of the day. Temporary as they are, they are still present when not wanted nor invited.

Only time and trial will current therapy really pay off. The surgical alternatives are not an option and this must be faced. Perhaps 30 years from now, but not now.

I have not spoken much about her well being other than physical. Well now I can report her mental health has risen a few notches. Outlook on things are improving and a steady course has been encouraged, best we can.

Don's world
20010120 - We have a new member of the family! A spanking new Mac G4 and matching Studio Display! ... I'm speechless ... It's breath taking, it's fast and it's here. It's one of the new model's that were just produced and by chance when I called the store they had just received shipment the day prior. 30GB hard disk, that alone has me excited, a CD-RW drive built-in, a Zip drive built-in and a restored faith in internet speed. The old 5200 (I never thought I would call it old) that has been connected to the weeeb did a fair job is nothing compared to the G4. Also purchased was a hub to connect both 52' & G4 via ethernet to surf and local file swap and at the same time 52' is pulling triple duty as a file and now print server. Next job is to get the printers up to ethernet speed.

I mentioned the DSL is not good with the 52' but now very crisp with the G4 in charge. Speeds were 32K (bytes) at a very good moment when there was no sun spots, no traffic on the streets, I was wearing lucky socks, 3:00 AM and wired from 2 pots of coffee. Now I just have a passing thought about any site and poof, damn near 1MB (bytes) of speed, steady. Safety first, seat belts are being considered.

20010122 - Gloat of the Month: Proud owner (original) of a working ImageWriter II (AppleTalked at that!)

(Telus)
For those at the phone company, check out our new web space for the Transmission department: "http://network.tsl.telus.com/transmission"
I'm the webbist and need input. I've been advised in words that translate almost like to keep it clean (what ever this means), this is of course doesn't indicate we can't have a bit of fun with it. It's behind a firewall so most of us can't see it. ;(

The House
The fan keeps us cool...
20010126 - The 7RP (70's Renovation Project) is alive once again. I mentioned last time the reno in the lower level has started us off in directions we are entering with renewed regal.
Mind you, a few details are being looked into over the next few weeks it has been a very busy past couple of months. No Christmas cards were sent (no time), very little partying (no time) and of course new found respect for the fellow home renovator. The job for the most part is (almost) complete in record time. It has been a learning experience and can be applied to the rest of the 7RP.

Doing renovations during the winter months is good. You are indoors with no reason to be out in the yard and can cool off a room in seconds by opening a window. When working away and have a sweat going, stepping out for a minute is all you need to cool off. This is a good thing. Thankfully all that is required is about 10 feet of wall to be painted and touch up's here and there. Along with a few final chores to complete in the lower level and we are done. Should be a few weeks and that stage is done.

Look out Kitchen, you're next. Shopping for ideas and such for the Kitchen has begun. We are not running with arms flailing to the cabinet and kitchen stores but becoming very careful shoppers. I don't want to sound negative but cabinet offerings and kitchen equipment are for the most part over hyped. These are boxes with doors, nothing more. The search for something more than a box with a door is very difficult, hard to believe I know. Nobody wants to strip wallpaper at the best of times personally I loath it, the kitchen has lots of wallpaper. Oh, goody.

We are waiting and standing by to solve another house (reno) emergency.
