....This just in Here is the page of facts and figures for reaching us here at this end. I will also cover whatever comes to mind about projects and activity that can be seen at blah, blah, blah, blah. Look toward the bottom of the page for the most recent thoughts. Most pages are about this size in content, with few exceptions.
Updated at least once a month and average so far has been 3 times per month. This page will have a file size limit of about 24K, once this is reached I will put up another as the link pages are now. Simple Text (my editor) has a comfortable range of close to this. It happened, clique this for the second Mail & News page.

eMAIL
Mail around here is an issue as I'm sure it is there. Our place has several users and Mac's but only one account to the World. Should you desire a private correspondance with the "occupants" please put their name or initials in the subject header. Hey, why not do it always, you may notice as time goes on more and more SPAM and junk arrives from the pond scum of the planet. We recycle these messages immediately without delay.
Through the years I have had several email addresses to name a few:
  • @F1.N328.21.FIDONET.ORG
  • DMCLE1@AGT.ALTA.NET
  • dmclel1@agt.ab.net
  • /PN=Donald.Mclellan /OU=AGT /OU=DMCLELL1 /O=AGTLTD /PRMD=AGTLTD /ADMD=TELECOM.CANADA /C=CA /@resonet.com
  • mclellan@freenet.calgary.ab.ca
  • d2m@geocities.com
  • don.mclellan@telus.com
  • d2m@canada.com

The above were all valid at one time but the one that should be used is d2m@geocities.com. I forward this address to the ISP of choice at the moment. This way it lets me off the hook and I always get the mail. My current & backup ISP address' are not mentioned so please don't use these addresses because I move around a bit between them.
There is always those who don't use the free disks in the magazines for their intended purpose as drink coasters and decide to Spam the world with useless jibberish resulting from their disturbed morals. Any hints there I don't like junk mail? Never have, never will.
Then there is those phone calls for whatever it is that nobody wants and even if I did, they will never make a sale over the phone anyway. Scum I say, to try & sell over the phone with no consideration as to time of day nor circumstance.

It costs money to receive these random pieces of spam and it's not getting any better. You just finish removing yourself from one spammers list and you turn around and get 2 more in return!

The mail problem aside, if you have a moment to comment on the recent new look of the site, I would be grateful.

  • Look to the Tree Page for the current family tree project events. I have not spent a great deal of time with it lately but it is still alive. If I can muster some time and patience I will try and make use of rainy days to add a bit here and there.

The neighbour story has been sort of boring lately.
By the look of things the new neighbours might be fine. They seem to be a friendly bunch with some young ones and a dog.
    980808:
Lately the neighbour story has changed, on one side the dog sings (imagine the gawd-awful sound of animals being killed, slowly) and on the other they are really comming along and doing their part. What a switch!

    The Weather
980321 Tis the season Now that winter is past the interesting part, we can soon take to heart that the grass will be growing again, oh goody. The lawn mowers will be starting up again.
Can you believe the SNOW! What is the deal here? The winter was fairly normal and then BOOM, 2 feet of snow.

Last summer's weather ('96) has been one of the strangest in years. Sunny days for weeks at a time, and only broken up by a day or two with only an hour of rain and a couple of hours of wind.
The heat is murder in the company truck! The back windows only open a crack and the front are a bother with the wind blowing papers all around when driving. Paper weights would be good on a desk but when travelling the freeway....

971010 - Now that the fall season is here and the leaves are knee deep it is with deep regret I have to winterize the lawn mower. Aahh, I don't mind a bit, it's just that the darn snow shovel is the tool that will be used to nauseum.

    971113:
Well the winter is comming! The leaves are all but frozen now and frost is on the truck windows every day. It's not all that bad since we did have a good summer and the winter is always welcome to have the refreshing snow to blanket the brown with pure white.
It's a shame it gets cold with the snow, mind you if it didn't get cold where would the snow be?

    980808:
The summer of 98 is a record setter! I cannot remember this much heat for this many days in a row. Imagine weeks of hot weather, after awhile it gets to be pesky since sticking to everything does get tiring and sooner or later some back breaking work has to be done.

    This just in.
    - There is always news at the Fam page and the other Links below.
Also linked from the What's new page is my most recent project of AppleTalk in the house. Check it out and expect to see illustrations soon. Comming soon is also some other projects of interest to those of us who are computer hobbists. Look to the Project page for more info as it is published.

How do some people keep up to all the stuff that is out there?
    They don't.

They just link to somebody else's.

Check out the links at the Links & Mac related page also from the Front Page, naturally. I'm sure the list will grow but it is not my life work to keep it growing. If something outstanding comes along it will be there, provided I can find it (and Mac related). Recently my efforts are with mentioning the really good and timely sites. These are the sites that are very good and founded on excellent standards (my opinion of course).

    971111:
I now have posted a new link page of stuff found around here. Try the Local Links page. Now and then I find a site that has a certain charm and they have a spot reserved on the link pages. Here again is another example of never enough.

    980808:
The time has come to branch off the Entertainment links from the Mac links page. Check these out, some are cute and others are just a few of my bookmarks put up on the server so I can use them where ever I go.

May the spirits of wisdom visit you daily, and leave a lasting impression (I've pondered if they are the ones who don't wipe their feet on rainy days before comming in the house).

Just the other day Carolyn and I went to the Supertramp concert.

    Wow.

These guys at the age they are and with the wit that goes with their advanced age (wait a minute, that's me too) they are just too good. It's like 1975 all over again. The tunes were too good to believe live and yet we were there to see it in person. Trust me it's true.
The morning paper claimed the music has changed and mellowed, ahhh but it has improved. How can Supertramp possibly improve you say. It happened, and it is good.

During the concert there was the faint smell of weed in the air and it brought back far too many memories and it was actually moving. The guy beside me was visibly moved several times. To hear what we were hearing and taste the sights and sounds of an era and time that was rekindled from a past that is very now. Wow. The tour was called "It's about time", and it certainly was.

I'm going to the store now and getting the new CD, no delay.

Slam .... McLellan has left the building

Another thing to check out is the new Fleetwood Mac release.

** the 2 links above are to the CDnow online catalog. The features change from time to time and recently I noticed the exact address may not point to the correct item. There is a search function available.

    971112:
The media is saying the economy here in Alberta is at it's current peak. Hmmm. They say it is doing much better than the rest of the country and we are in for an excellent Christmas shopping season. Are these people nuts? This is an oxymoron. The malls and stores are going to be hell. This is the time of year when from out of the woodwork comes the shoppers from .... This is not going to be the banner year as they say if you put any value on your own mental health. The best advise I have heard is to complete your shopping early before the schools get out and release those drivers to the streets.

I have to mention the other day I saw in a news item the Arctic temperature is now at a 400 year high. Tell me, now how does this make us sad? Finally after millions of years it's warming up. They are saying icebergs are going to be more of a threat, but if they keep the Titanic's out of the way they should be OK.
Another threat is the increased water from melting ice. Water is good. I like water as do most of us, but they claim the coastal regions of say L.A. and such will flood. This is yet another reason for the LA news to whine at the world. Every year the California area is burned, frozen, flooded, with bugs, drought, earthquakes and every other disaster they can possibly think of. You would think that after hundreds of years they would not have any trees to burn and the news of such would dwindle. Funny to think about it when we were there, the only trees we saw were the palm trees at the sides of the freeways! They were too far apart to possibly burn from one to another. Other than that it was pretty much barren and concrete.

980322 - Well it is here again, SNOW! What else can I whine about more than this? PeeCee's perhaps? Or yard work? Maybe I should keep quiet until the warm weather gets here. Perhaps a vacation would be in the future? I wish, if the damn company could get their act together we could have a vacation.

Well the day has finally come, the trusty old ITT3100 PABX has died. A few years ago the large poplar tree in our back yard was hit by lightning. The damage was to a few electrical devices (thankfully the Macs were spared) that were not protected such as alarm clocks and phones. The insurance company paid for replacement parts and pieces that were damaged, but the 3100 switch limped along at half speed for just a bit longer. I guess it was really a simple matter of time before I took it to the trash. The ITT speak for the DTMF cards are the beasts that died.

Now the time has come to revise the phones here and get the house back to normal. My modem pool is no longer, the door bells are gone (ring down circuits to the switch), and the huge system based speed dial list. Luckily I have an old 1A2 in the garage (the garage phone system) that I will try and use in the house as well. A-leads here we come! Should be fun trying to A-lead convert the cordless phones and the answering machines around here. What would I do without music on hold? How can I get by without the intercomn?

980519 - Well spring is finally here once again and with it all the stuff that goes with the season. The past couple of weeks have been spent doing yard work and such. What a welcome and overdue project to get the place looking better for the nice weather, this way I can get as much lawn chair time in as possible when the summer hits.

980705 - The rainy season is upon us once again with a vengence. Rain, rain, rain. The phones are back here much to the chagrin of the women of the house. They were perfectly happy with a couple of cordless phones with displays, et al, but that is not fun now is it? Of course not, I have to have an intercom, speed dial lists, paging, and the bells and whistles that goes with it. I came across an old NEC 16-48 key system that almost fits the bill, these are in todays terms very old systems. Since I have only one KTE cabinet wired at the moment I think 16 sets are enough.

    Around the Site
    980808:
Lately (as of this writing) I have changed the site appearance once again. This time I was going for speed and I don't know if it made all that much of a difference! Gone are the wee images for navigation and the "bar" at the top of all pages will be as it is here and instead a single pixel repeated to cover the job. Of course I invite any and all comments about how it works at your end.

The time has come for this page and several others to expand and branch off. This page will be continued as Mail & News 2. More news, more ranting, more stuff, boy-o-boy. What would be nice is to finally cash in on all the digital camera contests I have entered just once. Well that might be OK if I could contain myself and keep the snapshots to a minimum, eh.
