Elsewhere on the site the link page resides where it would not be in the best interest of a Windoz fan. Fear not, this page grew too large so another link-o-rama page has begun that has items of a more general interest.
And speaking of too large don't point that thing very far, this page has come from the larger and older Comment/ Editorial. Try Editorial in the first part, Editorial in the second part and of course Editorial in the third part behold Editorial in the fifth part, it's just that easy.

What does it all mean?
The time honored tradition of keep an eye open for any and all good reasons to poke holes into things. You may read into this as "lets have fun with the DOS box way of doing things in the most difficult and handicaped method possible."

This you may say is the real reason to get my digs in but as far as OS platforms go it could be summed up as this.

If you want to get something done, buy a Mac.
Poking fun at PC's gives me great joy because it is so easy, they are such 2 bit machines running an 8 bit code from a ..... you know how that tale goes. The boxes they are in are so hoaky, the monitors are generally goofy, the software is substandard, the OS insults most peoples intelligence and general setting it up creates fear and suffering.

I've been writing about this since 1997 and to this day nothing has improved. The IS people know us by the sound of our voices and yet we have to call. Our work depends on it. Sad that we cannot fix the trouble ourselves (network related password protected, yadda, yadda) because I would rather be doing something else beside listening to "Your call is important to us, please remain holding for the next available....."

991111 - Today's Rant
The dark side of computing has me laughing with tears that it's been a week since it happened that I have only now been able to tell you about it.

A co-worker has a DOS box in front of him that generally he only uses. It never leaves the building and is seldom left unattended. The company has a managed network that is locked up and each machine is equally the same. To add any software or make adjustments are a waste of time. This machine as all others have a CDROM drive that is used for nothing more than jokes about the cup holder. Needless to say it has never been used for it's intended purpose nor for beverages but yet it died. It cannot be used nor will it be used, how did it die and who found this out? After several days of "blue screen of death" it was determined the never used CDROM MUST be at fault. I can't stand it.

Another rant
991112 - I have likely said before and I will most probably say again the DOS box network is going to be our doom. We still don't have a reliable method of sending or receiving work (printed material) to us or The Office.

Last week after trying for at least 2 hours I finally restored printer preferences that should never change. Tell me, Why do DOS boxes forget the last link of the chain in getting a document printed?
... top of next column ...

Just a minute, the printer was last weeks problem, the week before it was the profile problem again, the week before that it was more server problems, and during this time several applications had to be upgraded several times just to run. I still have lost my files placed on the common network drive that have never returned. To make this more frustrating we cannot put anything on the common drive, this would tell me it is no longer the common drive. Ah, maybe so as experience has proven but just ask the IS guru's and they say Nay. Just create a folder and place documents within and there you are. Horsefeathers. Canna be done, Captain. Two years ago yes, two months ago yes, but last month Nada. I've also tried standing on one foot and putting my finger on my nose as well, but still it makes that lame sound and gives no explanation.

If you have not caught on by now it is the lack of a fruit like symbol on the front of the equipment.

The Bottom Line

The trouble and problems with the office DOS boxes are weekly, daily and monthly. Why is unknown to the IS people (you know I know why) yet considering we don't change, add, subtract any software nor hardware these problems persist. Just surfing the weeeb it crashes but so it does here with free software, I can't be bothered fixing that since my problem at home is simple lack of RAM and cash. The office machines RAM are more than enough.

The Dilbert method of survival must be applied liberally each day.
