Sara Tour Tourist Agency was
the name of our tour agent company. They provide good service. There were 16 people in the
truck. They are a Canadian couple, a Danish guy, a Georgian guy (he has long hair and
doesn't speak much), three Malaysians (that's me, Kriss and another guy from KL sitting in
front with the driver), two British (Lisa and the Malaysian guy's friend) and a few
Koreans(I think they are students). Our tour guide name is Kheng Thim I think. He is
21 years old and speaks very good English. He is cute too ;) He said that Kriss and I look
like Cambodian, cause both of us half Chinese and half Thai. We chat with others along the
way. It was a bumpy ride, they called it the "Dancing Road". Everybody hold on
to the truck, cause if you let go, you might fell off the truck!! Ohh... Ouch.... My butt
hurts a lot!
Things start getting
worst when it started to rain. It's raining reason in Cambodia. We need to change three
trucks along the trip due to a broken bridge and a really bad road conditions.
It started to rain very
hard when we reach the broken bridge. We have to cross the river by walking on the cement
path. Meanwhile the water level is rising. I am so scared that I might fall into the river
cause my backpack was so heavy and I can't balance myself. My big
mistake! I should not have bring too much stuff. Thank God I manage to cross the
river safely. We change truck. At this moment the rain is getting heavier now, I can hear
the thunder roar. But we still have to continue our journey. I am cold and hungry and I am
having the time of my life! Wow!
Cambodia has miles and
miles of paddy fields. The land is flat and you can see it very far till the horizon. The
paddy fields are much more bigger then those in Kedah, Malaysia. The truck pass along
small villages. Children smiling and waving at us, saying "Hello.....". We waved
back to them too. It's a wonderful experience I ever have before, it's like back in time
like the pre war time my mom used to tell me.
We stop at a small
stall for dinner at 6.00pm. All of us have our dinner there except the Koreans and the
Georgian guy. The three of us sit together with Kheng Thim and our truck driver. We had
rice and fried vegetable. It coast 50 Thai Baht for three person. We rest for a while
before continue our journey. The village children are friendly and curious to to know the
"strangers" in their village. I give them some packets of biscuits and take
picture together with them before we go. Everybody were in the truck and it's time to go.
We waved to them again and say "Bye Bye" with a smile :)
It's a red earth road
and not tar road to Siem Reap. The road condition was worst when raining. It's about
8.00pm when we stop for the second time to change truck again. It's totally darkness here
and I can only see flashes of touch light. I was told to becarefull because there are huge
pot holes everywhere. Kheng Thim told us that we can walk or take a boat to the other side
of the road. Unfortunately there's no boat tonight, so we all walk across the mud. This is
the best part of my adventure. I am so clumsy, I fell into the mud hole two times. It's
very deep and scared the hell out of me! Luckily Kheng Thim pull me out. It's very
slippery to walk and everybody walk very fast because afraid to be left behind. Everybody
made it safely to the other side. I am glad that's over. What can go wrong now?
The second truck
haven't arrive yet. So we can't do anything but wait. It's been one hour now. We are in
the middle of nowhere and it's raining. There are lots of people stranded there too,
lorries and pick-up trucks. Anything can happen, we might get rob or kill. Thank God
nothing happen to us that night. The situation begins to get tense now when the truck
haven't come yet. There's a pick-up truck which offer to take us to Siem Reap if each of
us pay 50 Thai Baht. Everybody agrees and we jump into the truck. We are pack like sardine
because there are more than 20 persons in that truck. Half way the journey, our Sara Tour
truck came. We change truck again. Only the Koreans stay on the first truck while the rest
of us follow the Sara Tour truck. That's the last time we saw the Koreans. That's not much
people sitting at the back of the pick-up truck, just the three of us, the Canadian couple
and Kheng Thim. So it's more comfortable.
11.30pm, we arrive at
Siem Reap finally. Wow.. it's a long and tough journey. Yes.. and we made it! I think it's
a great achievement to go to Cambodia in the raining season and through Poipet. This
journey makes me realized that the Khemers are really tough people, this is a hard land
and I really respect them.
The truck take us to
the Siem Reap & Angkor Guess House. The guess house people treat us very nice. They
even bring a chair for me to come down from the truck. They know we are very tired,
hungry, cold, scared and angry. I am shock and start laughing when I saw myself soaking
wet and cover with mud! What a journey.
The three of us decided
to spend a night there and move to Naga Guess House the next morning cause it's much
cheaper there. After taking a shower and clean myself up, Kriss and I went down to eat
something. We chat with the guess house people. They are curious to know which country
Kriss and I come from. They said that we look like Cambodian. We had fried rice (cost
USD1) and chat with Kheng Thim. He looks handsome after shower. I can't even recognized
him! He is a nice guy. He follow the truck to Poipet and back again to Siam Reap two times
a day. Wow....! Tough guy huh. Time to go to sleep now. Tomorrow we will spend our time
exploring Siem Reap town.
