Vienna "ringers"--The Austrian Parlament building, located on the roads creating the famous "Ring" around downtown Vienna. |
Vienna, Austria-- Spring Break, March 2000 was my first chance to get out of Budapest and visit neighboring countries. Vienna, three hours away, was my first stop. My favorite part of this city was the $3 ballet in the famous Vienna Opera House: Romeo and Juliette. Each night the opera house hosts a different play and the cheapest seats were less than the price of a McDonald's meal. The ballet was great with the dazzling costumes and, thankfully, no words in German. I left the next morning for the setting of The Sound of Music, Salzburg, Austria. (I would later come back with my sister and her friend in June.) Recommendation: Unavoidable for Psychology buffs is the Café Centrale where Sigmund Freud was a regular customer. Try the vienerschnitzel. Spend about a day in Vienna and travel to smaller Austrian cities tucked in the beautiful Alps instead. April 19-20, 2000
