All of our travels: austria germany brataslava to copenhagen oslo budapest rome florence pisa and the italian riviera venice switzerland amsterdam paris london |
Oops!--I take a rest on a nearby pillar. | Pisa, Italy-- We were not expecting to be able to fit Pisa into our plans, but we were faced without a hotel in Venice and decided to take a detour to the city. The trip was worth it. Seeing the Leaning Tower of Pisa is like nothing else. It attracts your attention, but yet makes you cautious because you know a building should not look like that. While we were there, crews had attatched cable to the tower to bring it back so it wasn't leaning too far over. It was a spectacular sight.
July 13, 2000 The Italian Riviera-- Also unexpected was a side trip to the Italian Riviera. We took a five-mile trail along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea and struggled to finish sections of it. The trail would lead up into the cliffs, giving us a good work-out and an excellent view of the small villages and vineyards tacked to the seaside. At points, the trail would be only a couple feet across and we had to be careful where we stepped. The colors of the houses and the sea were breathtaking. July 14, 2000 |
The "other" riviera-- One of the three cities we passed on our five-mile hike along the coast of the Italian Riviera. |
