Bath, Ontario

Bath, Ontario, is a Historic Bath. (We were to find out that virtually every Bath is 'historic'.) This one yielded a meeting with Ian Talbot, 'curator' of the local museum. He gave us an entertaining account of this fascinating place, filled us in on details of Canada's first brewery (sadly no longer here) and first hanging of an innocent man, both of which took place here. (Accused of stealing a watch and sentenced to hanging in the less than impartial atmosphere of the local tavern, the unfortunate man was executed only for the receipt to turn up later on. A salutary lesson to receipt-losers there, I think.) A man of typically dry Canadian humour, Ian was distraught by the recent name change of the Bath Village Water Treatment works - before that it was the Bath Water Treatment Works, which had several commercial possibilities. Anyone for a bottle of Bath Water?
