Welcome to the Original RPG contest. This is a contest
where you can write your own original RPG and win the translation
of it into a real videogame. There also are posted the works of
other people so you may see them.
For those of you whom haven't noticed, this is
DarkMagus/Sabin/Plasma's RPG contest. He handed it over to me so
now I'm in charge. I'm adding my own modifications to the format
and try to make this run as better as possible. Please notify me if you
dislike it or want any changes. Another thing, I'm posting the
stories in HTML.
The Prize) Of course in a contest there must be a prize. Originally it was the winning story being sent to SquareSoft, but I don't know about the availability of that in the present and it wasn't guaranteed that they would use it. Instead, I will send it to companies that could be interested on player's ideas (Enix, for example). Any way, the more detailed the RPG here is, (situations, tricks, secrets, dialogs, graphics, etc) it will be easier to find someone to program it and the author will have more credit. I will try to find a programmer´s guild to do the game if this failed.
This is a contest, so as any organized event, there are rules to partipate.
1) Your RPG cannot be connected in any way to other
existing RPG, it must be completely original (NO Final Fantasy,
Dragon Warrior, etc.)
The characters also must be named originally. You may use generic
names also used in another RPGs (Edgar, Vincent, Paula), but not
obviously brought from that one (Setzer, Rydia, Aeris) and they
can't in any case be related physically or psychologically to the
existing ones.
The abilities from characters and terms may also be RPG typical
(Magic, Katana, Paladin) but NO game-specifical (Espers, Materia,
Sketch)
2) Can join as many authors as they want, but votes will start to be collected since the first five declare themselves ready. To determine the winner of the prize, I have yet to decide how will the voting system be, but probably I'll decide for some ranking system. I may choose a jury or a mail formulary for anyone to send.
3) You can be as specifical and complete as you want.
As I said, the completer it is, the easier to find the developer.
Your project may be as big as you want, you may team up, do
graphics, music, etc, etc.
You send me what you want to have and I'll post (as long my
Geocities space holds) it. If this begins to grow up, I'll
organize it better.
4) These could be the parts of your RPG. Except the
main story, all of them are optional, but they have a percentage
that could be what is considered on a ranking. Basically, treat
it like you were planning the actual game.
- The Main Story, minimal but not limited to 10 chapters = 50 %
- More detailed description of the events of the game, like
stores, puzzles, NPC informations that are relevant or add to the
background of the game. It can be on a more schematic format.
Also could be treated as walkthrough = 30 %
- Characters description (including pics and art if you can
include them) = 10%
- Magic / Skills info (Spell list) If someone could find out a
way to show the spells movement (like animated gifs) that would
be GREAT and he/she'll have special credit. = 10%
* If someone has an audible output (music) that would like to be
played during the read of his/her story (like this page), send it
to me. It CAN be from an existing game if you need to - since it
wouldn't be part of the programmed game.
These parts you can send as you want, in the same document,
apart, etc, and I'll set it up. Also in case you needed, for
example, change a name in also already posted, send me the files
again.
I know all this may seem a little big, but I'm just giving you
freedom. Even I can't assure I'll do all that, only giving you
chance to do. If no one is able to do, for example, the
character's pics, it won't be taken into account and that's all.
Also if you dislike any changes or the format it is now, please
tell me as this contest is mainly for you and not for me.
Here are the stories from the people who are already participating. If you want to join, mail me.
You can use the Message Board I have to post your comments and suggestions.
There were be a little change on the order of the postings. I can't rank them on my opinion since this is a contest, and the alphabetic order doesn't satisfy me neither. I will post new material up (with the rest of the story) so, in one side, it is easier to find the new things (as if the flashing signs weren't enough) and, in the other, to make the page look up-to-date as the old stuff will be kept below. That way, also everyone has his or her chance to be on the top.
The music indicated within the files is not set up yet. The music icon will be placed when this occurs.
