A walk to Tokyo
In June of 1998 my friend Sean and I walked from
Yokohama to Tokyo.
When we had first arrived in Japan
we decided that sometime during our
exchange we would walk to Tokyo. It
was about 20-25 miles. One Saturday
after school we set out from
Yokohama Station at about 1:30 and
arrived at
Tokyo Station about 8:45.
Along the way we saw many
interesting things. Just before we left
the Yokohama city limits we
witnessed a bicyclist get hit by a
motorcyclists and minutes later saw
the ambulance rush to the scene.
Just after we entered Kawasaki limits
we found a kitten and took it with us
in my backpack. When we enetered
Tokyo we stopped at an animal clinic
and donated. This took about an hour,
but we knew we couldn't keep it and
it wouldn't survive on the street.
When we were in front of a train
station in Tokyo we also saw a couple
break up. The girl was really steamed
and jumped out of the car screaming
at the guy in the middle of traffic.
Sean and I found it quite amusing.
After we got to Tokyo Station we ate
dinner at a ramen hut and came back
on the train. We treated ourselves to
the luxory car because we believed
we deserved it. It was a lot of fun.
You should do it sometime.
Yokohama Station is where we started.  We passed all these places before getting to Tokyo
The Tokyo Tower
Signs marking how far it was to Nihonbashi, an area of Tokyo about a mile from Tokyo Station.
It is hard to see, but the charactors written on the rock above stand for Tokyo Station.  We made it.
A cat we found on the sidewalk in Kawasaski. We named it Nazo which means enigma in English. We chose this name because we didn't know where it came from and how it ended up on the street.  I carried it for five mile in my back pack before we gave it to a vetrinarian clinic in Tokyo.
