Sadly there are a growing number of cases
of therapist or physician abuse. Although there are ethical standards
of behavior for those working in medical, educational, spirtitual or
counseling roles, as well as many supervisory roles (coaching, babysitting,
etc.) there are perpetrators in the helping professions who will take advantage
of those who seek their assistance.
Professional abuse can include emotional, physical and sexual abuse as well
as spiritual and financial abuse. It occurs when a doctor or therapist
or other person in an position of power and authority uses his or her position
to get their own needs met at the expense of the patient/client.
