Appendix B - MBA schools rating via Internet
Note: this table uses a very US-centric ratings system with high points awarded for having prescribed policies and seperate LBG associations and less for actual benefits offered. There is also no judgement/score for how tolerant the general student and staff body are towards LBG students. The author of this paper has communicated with this tables author and appreciates the reasoning behind the scoring system used.
However, Australians would place less weight to having something 'in writing' and more on how the reality is - ie whether equal benefits are available and how accepted gay students themselves feel. Australians would reason that in a fully accepting environment, and one without discrimination, there would be no need for a LBG Club or Alumni for example. Under an Australian-centric ratings system Dartmouth and Chicago would rate considerably higher in this table. The author of this paper is, apparently, the first openly gay student at Melbourne Business School and has found fellow students both tolerant and accepting of himself and his partner - when considering where to study this may factor larger in the decision of any gay man or woman than whether a small and beseiged Club exists. Notes
Melbourne Business School is consistently rated the best MBA programme in the Asian region and, interestingly, there is a high correlation between the reputation of US Business Schools and how highly they score in this table.
