And now for some exciting graphs we have put together. They will all end up in articles of their own (some day...) but for now we thought you may just enjoy them anyway!
They are all drawn from the General Social Survey (GSS) done from the University of Chicago.
If the GSS can only get under 1% of men to tell the interviewer they are homosexual ... what the hell are all those other men who have sex with men calling themselves. According to the GSS, heterosexual! A nice correlation between the rise and fall of the fundys and what people think of us. Interesting to also note the rise of anti-gay attitudes pre-dates HIV/AIDS but does coincide with the initial mass coming out of gay men and women - took awhile but it looks like the scare campaign by the fundys has failed in the sheer face of the truth. All the more reason for everyone (who can) to come out. And surprise, surprise - it looks like black people don't fare too well when the fundys rise either... or mixed race couples... or freedom of speech and access to library materials. Not sure if this means "wrong" or "wrong for myself" or "wrong for others" - the GSS attitudinal surveys would be more helpful if they cross-questioned at times. So let me get this straight - you think we are a menace or a hinderance if we want to volunteer but you'd have no qualms about drafting us? Sounds like you think we deserve the same responsibilities but we don't deserve the same rights. Is this not scary and insane? Imagine those dark old days when mixed race couples were controlled by laws (prior to 1967) in the same way gay couples are today. And it appears the US governement or the Courts were in no hurry to move ahead of public opinion - regardless of the fact basic human rights should have nothing to do with needing a majority vote! Why don't heterosexuals put as much emphasis on the Biblical rules against divorce? Hmmm, maybe they can see how such laws might hurt them one day. Better leave those let-out clauses in... |
