1.
Take the 1 – 5 ¼” light blue squares and the 1 - 5
¼
" gold squares and draw a diagonal line (corner to corner) on
the wrong side of the fabric. |
2.
Using the 1 – 5 ¼” light blue squares and the 1 - 5
¼
" gold squares place them right sides together with the 2 dark
blue squares. |
3.
Sew 1/4" away from the drawn line on both sides (just like
making half square triangles. |
4.
Cut the squares in half on the drawn line and press towards the dark
blue fabric. You should now have 4 half square triangle
blocks. |
5.
Draw a diagonal line on each of the half square triangle blocks
perpendicular to the seam.
|
6.
This
is the tricky part. Place one dark blue and gold half square
triangle right sides up with the blue triangle on the left. Place
one dark blue and light blue (background) half square triangle block
on top (right sides together) with the blue triangle to the right.
If you fold down the top of the triangle it should look like the
picture below.
|
7.
Sew 1/4" away from the drawn line on both sides. It is
important to line up the two seams from the two half square triangle
blocks. You should be able to feel if the seams are lying on top of
each other nicely or if there is a bump. You can also fold down the
top of the triangle to see that the seams are matching up. See
picture from step 6.

8.
Cut the triangle in half on the drawn line.
Press
the seam open. Trim to 4 1/2" squares.
