Welcome to my Backyard Pond
This is how the pond started! First we decided where the best spot would be
to make the pond. We chose an existing bed with some plants and trees and started
with the digging. From there it all began on May 12, 1998. Without my brother T.'s (Lester, to one's who don't know him by "T.")*S*
help this would never have happened! Thanks Bro, I luv U and sure appreciate all
you did to help create my pond.
The Hole is about 15' X 10' and is kidney shaped. The deepest part is 3' and the shallow depth is 1' with a 2' section that slopes into the 3' center. The fish stay in the 3' part over the winter months.
The guy in the truck shoveling the sand is "Big John" my best freind and hubby.
The guy in the hole spreading the sand is "T." my brother. The sand is to
cushion the rubber lining so it won't get punctured by sharp objects that we
may have overlooked!
After John and T. got the lining in place we put big flat creek rock we gathered from
the creek that flows in front of the house.
After the entire pond was lined with creek gravel (the kind you buy...LOL...not from our creek.
It would have taken us much to long to gather the creek gravel so John and I opted to pay
$12.00 a load. We bought the sand also...much easier on the back and isn't all that expensive) the
water hose is taken out and Brittani enjoys watching over the water intake! It was very hot
and I bet that she is the coolest gal on the farm!
I am inside the pond placing the finishing rocks around the top of the pond. This
is more fun than making Nanny's Nook. You remember last year when I showed you Nanny's Nook?
No...Oh dear then you must visit it before you leave. Find the link below.
T. is placing the first water plant we purchased for the pond. It is an
orange water canna. Its blooms are a radiant orange. Its already grown and
has blessed us with beautful blossoms for 2 months. The other plants you see
in the pond are all freebies from my cousin, my brother and my Aunt.
When we visit one another if we see a perennial we don't have in our
garden, we just take a start of it! This is a common gesture made with
gardeners around here. I hope you are blessed with good and generous folks
where you live. Here in West Virginia we tend to stick together and help
out when and where we're needed........Yes, Yes I know I've been
promising to get this page up for 2 months..but gee I've been very busy helping
folks with their web pages...so sit back and enjoy the rest of the tour.
Continue your tour of my pond and gardens! Lots of
flowers gardens and much more pond pic's and you must meet "Bud" he is our
pet Bull Frog that showed up one evening!
