Jesus came to Nazareth, where he had grown up, and went into the synagogue. He stood up to read the Scriptures and was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah.
"The Spirit of the Lord is with me.
He has anointed me to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bring freedom to prisoners and to give sight to those who are blind.
He has sent me to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim the Lord's blessing to all."
Everyone in the synagogue looked directly at him. Jesus said to them, " Today this scripture passage has come true."
