Trestleboard Article November/December 2002

Brethren,

We have received word from our Grand Master that our By-Laws changes have been approved and thus, take effect immediately. The most important change being the start time of our regular communication. November’s meeting will commence at 7:30 pm instead of 8:00 pm. Please pass this information on to every brother you see.
Our first blood drive got the Lodge off to a good start. The blood drive was also to celebrate the Lodge’s 246th Anniversary. The blood drive was held at the Lodge on 1 October 2002 from 10:00 am to 2:00 p.m. During those four hours we had 21 donors sign up, and after the screening process we collected 15 units/pints of blood from those who were cleared to donate. Brother Mark Henderson worked very hard toward the success of our drive and reserves high praise for his results.
We are hoping to make the hosting of blood drives, through the Lowcountry Community Blood Center and the Florida – Georgia Blood Alliance, our charitable contribution to the greater Beaufort community, and we are planning to host a drive on a quarterly basis. However, to build on our success we need your help as a donor, Lodge spokesman, and donor recruiter. This is a great way to give to our community and to give Masonry some positive publicity. The blood collected by this organization stays right here in Beaufort at Beaufort Memorial hospital, so you and your family could directly benefit from it someday. Each pint of blood, after processing, benefits three separate individuals, so the fifteen pints collected at our Loge on October 1st will help forty-five people in need. It only takes about 20 minutes to donate, so please try and make time to come to our next drive and bring a friend, and if you can’t make it, recruit a donor to take you place.
Of particular interest to you, as member of Harmony Lodge, are the benefits that your and your family will reap as we get more donors. If we can muster the support of 55 donors within a 12 month period, every member of the Lodge (Regardless of whether he donated blood), and his tax-dependant family members, will be eligible to receive a 20% reimbursement on the cost of processing blood for one year regardless of their insurance benefits. If we can get 88 donors during a 12-month period, this same benefit is extended to the non-tax dependant family members. Donors do not have to wait for the Lodge blood drives; they can donate at ANY Lowcountry Community Blood Center blood drive. All they have to do is tell the people at the hospital or in the “Blood-mobile” that they want their donation to be credited to harmony Lodge, and we get th4e credit towards our 12-month percentage. You can look in the Beaufort Gazette for additional drives highlighted by a blue and white square with a red blood drop. There are drives almost every week.
I would also remind the craft to visit our lodge’s website for any lodge updates and general Masonic information at http://www.geocitities.com/Hearland/Valley/6133 Special thanks to Brother Johnson on his dedication and hard work as our web-master.
If you have not been to a meeting in a while, try to come out and join the fellowship, and if you come out every month, thank you and I look forward to seeing you again. BRING A BROTHER TO LODGE.
